15/8/2014 17:40 | WE'VE NOTHING against words being nailed down properly. But words that can be taken apart and used to make other words...well that's downright dangerous. Terry Pratchett, The Colour of Magic, Corgi Books,1983. apad | apad
15/8/2014 17:38 | A more optimistic view ----John Masefield ( The Wanderer ) Therefore, go forth, companion: when you find No highway more, no track, all being blind, The way to go shall glimmer in the mind. Though you have conquered Earth and Charted Sea And planned the courses of all stars that be , Adventure on, more wonders are in Thee. Adventure on for from the littlest clue Has come what worth man ever knew; The next to lighten all men may be you | roddiemac2
15/8/2014 13:40 | APAD, I can see I am going to have to pick my words more carefully for you:-- Some of the markets FSJ serves are about the attempt of the human race to survive. With growing populations and depleting natural resources , growth on out into the future is impossible. The future for most people will be to pay more to get less. The obsession with growth leads me to think that there is no more intelligence in the species than a field of cabbages. A better strategy for survival might be one based on how to manage the shrinking---? | roddiemac2
15/8/2014 13:05 | More than 75% of revenues are non-offshore oil and gas then. Plus oil is well above $100 and is likely to remain so imho, whilst sector expenditure will wax and wane as it always has. New sources of fuel will need more and more of the services FSJ offers given the need to explore deep underwater and further offshore. FSJ has steamed on through the recession and through the good times, thanks to its top-notch management whom I trust. The pension deficit is irrelevant and small at £23m - and in fact this year will show a large reduction in total contributions to £4.7m from £10.1m last year. | rivaldo
15/8/2014 12:18 | Points accepted, folks. However (don't you just hate that word?) Offshore oil and gas is 25% of the business and there must be a considerable overlap with "marine services". So, do tell why a cut back in big oil expenditure in these days of falling crude prices despite world unrest (Kurdistan is in the world's top ten) because of massive oversupply shouldn't be a drag on FSJ? apad ps any views on their pension deficit. pps Roddie, hate to tell you this but the human race won't survive:-) | apad
14/8/2014 17:45 | Correction -- Some of the markets FSJ is involved in ARE about the ----- | roddiemac2
14/8/2014 17:23 | APAD. Some of the markets FSJ is involved in is about the survival of the human race . I can`t see the relevance of the oil price.( I could , however , be wrong ) | roddiemac2
14/8/2014 15:26 | Wow, just in , great rise today :) Chart-wise we can/should crack on from here. | scottishfield
14/8/2014 13:06 | r Only because big oil will throttle back on expenditure - not true? apad | apad
14/8/2014 12:50 | Exactly roddie, all opinions I've seen confirm that marine transport/usage will continue to grow fast, indeed some say at the expense of air transport. Nice move today. Looks like FSJ is back on an uptrend again. | rivaldo
13/8/2014 16:26 | APAD, Why do you think the decline in the oil price will dent FSJ?. I have said before that FSJ looks like a company you could hold for life . Not many of those around. Look at the diversity of markets they serve, and the geographic spread. They are involved in the development of the " last frontier " .( the sea ,and everything being done on and under it ) I first bought FSJ in Dec 2001. I have held NBI since March 2011, and moved them into my ISA in January this year. They seem a very well run company with good prospects . | roddiemac2
13/8/2014 14:44 | We must stop meeting like this. Have been watching Fisher, but decided to go for NBI instead (a while back). Do you researchers have a view on NBI. Still tempted by Fisher, but with the oil price on a relentless decline I feel in no hurry. Will value your views. apad | apad
13/8/2014 11:57 | tks riv; great to see this little rise as I've been chipping away buying between here & £13. | scottishfield

07/8/2014 07:42 | Note that the above contract win was for BP, with whom Fendercare has previously won very large contracts. Hopefully more to come. This news also shows FSJ's expansion plans and range of activities: "Grimsby base 06 Aug 2014 James Fisher Marine Services, part of UK marine and subsea services company James Fisher and Sons plc, have announced the launch of an operational base in Port of Grimsby East, to support construction and O&M activities within the growing offshore wind sector. Port of Grimsby East was chosen due to the significant investment made in the area in recent years and the growing presence of renewable energy companies as an attractive location to service their wind farms. The facility provides a local presence to be able to respond quickly to clients' needs through the rapid and efficient mobilisation and demobilisation of vessels and equipment. According to a JFMS spokesperson, such equipment could include mass flow excavation systems, air and nitrox diving spreads, ROV spreads, Ship to Turbine oil transfer systems, offshore accommodation modules and other specialist marine and subsea assets and equipment. "This latest expansion of our operational footprint enables us to increase both the range of services and the speed of response and service levels to our customers engaged in the development and operation offshore wind farms off the East coast of England" explained Jim Hey, managing director, JFMS. "With many of the James Fisher companies already engaged in offshore wind projects in the North Sea, this new facility enables us ensure that we have the right assets and personnel in place to react quickly and efficiently and provide our customers with a single interface to the groups wider capability", he continued. The new facility, that includes offices, meeting rooms and a secure lay-down facility, went operational from 21 July with diving and inspection class ROV equipment from Osiris Marine Services located on site with further specialist equipment arriving over the summer." | rivaldo
06/8/2014 06:08 | FSJ's Divex win a "multi-million pound Singapore shipyard contract" :o)) "Cumbria's James Fisher subsidiary awarded multi-million pound Singapore shipyard contract Bdaily Business News 05 Aug 2014 Divex has been awarded a multi million pound contract to supply a saturation diving system to Keppel Singmarine. Divex, a subsidiary of James Fisher and Sons plc and a world leader in commercial and defence diving products, has been contracted by Singapore shipyard Keppel Singmarine (KSM) for the engineering design, supply and installation of a 300 metre depth 18 man twin bell / twin hyperbaric lifeboat saturation diving system to be classed by DNV. The diving systems, which will include an air/nitrox surface diving capability, are to be installed upon a new build vessel for BP Exploration Shah Deniz II Project in the Caspian Sea. The vessel which is to be 155m long with a beam of 32m, is being purpose built for the construction phase of the project. The vessel will be constructed in KSM's Singapore yard in two longitudinal halves of 16m beam each. These will then be transported into the Caspian Sea through the canal linking to the Black Sea. The vessel will be completed in the Baku Shipyard for delivery in 2017. Joint managing director, Derek Clarke commented: "This is a very important win for us particularly given the standing of both Keppel Singmarine and the ultimate owner, BP. "It is the culmination of many months of work and a fitting reward for all the effort put in by Divex staff to provide the very best diving technology. "Current diving support vessels in the Caspian are from the era going back to the 80s so when she is operational she will herald a significant leap forward in diving technology terms". Divex has a long pedigree in the successful design and manufacture of saturation diving systems and the company's track record shows more than one hundred systems built spanning the last 35 years." | rivaldo

25/7/2014 09:02 | Sf, the very bottom chart in the thread header is interesting. Primed for another leg up methinks! And this is VERY interesting from last week - FSJ have won the offshore construction works for the "world's largest tidal energy operation"..... http ://www.proactiveinve "Atlantis Resources (LON:ARL), the owner of what, when built, will be the world's largest tidal energy operation, said it has now reached final pricing and terms with a raft of contractors helping build the first phase of the MeyGen Project in Scotland Pentland Firth.
