Ambitious price target there.

It would be more ambitious if the share price was 10p.

Witnessing the birth of an airline... after several stalled attempts

Dar es Salaam.11/10/2017
Fastjet’s first Embraer E190 is arriving this week as the budget airline minimizes costs to operate profitably, the company has announced.
“The new, modern aircraft arrives in Tanzania this week and will await regulatory approvals after which its launch flight will take place,” the airline said in a statement yesterday.
The Embraer E190 replaces the Airbus A319 which has now gone out of service.
The second Embraer E190 is expected toward mid-November.
Fastjet believes that switching to a small aircraft, which uses less fuel and has a better maintenance interval, was a key part of the airline’s turnaround strategy.
The company announced last year that it would sell its wholly-owned Airbus A319 as part of important step in stabilization plan and a move towards a more appropriate size of fleet.
The Embraer E190 jet is a modern aircraft which is able to fly at high altitude for greater efficiency and passenger comfort. He said Fastjet was committed to simplifying air travel by making it easy for customers to access low fares.
In-between the first flight of the new aircraft and the exit of the old, Fastjet will be flying an interim schedule that impacts flights between Mbeya and Dar es Salaam. In addition, Fastjet has also launched a plan to greatly improve its customer service.

I think they can circumvent that in some cases, say another placing, rather than purchasing shares in the open market...

Ok thanks. I noticed Solenta stake rises to 29% after the placing which brings them close to the threshold where the can start a takeover???

When a person or group acquires interests in shares carrying 30% or more of the voting rights of a company, they must make a cash offer to all other shareholders at the highest price paid in the 12 months before the offer was announced (30% of the voting rights of a company is treated by the Code as the level at which effective control is obtained).

Pretty standard legalise I think.South African holding company maybe required, so a South African national is a majority shareholder, to prevent colonial plundering of natural resources (and to allow government officials to make out)...

Hello all, I have to admit to be quite confused reading the circular posted today on the fastjet website especially the deal with Fedair. I understand the deal with Solenta on entering Mozambique using their AOC because Solenta is a large shareholder (20% ???) and leases all or most aircraft to fastjet (there is clear mutual benefit). But the deal with Fedair is slightly more complex. As I understand so far fastjet enters into an agreement with Fedair to use Fedair's established network in South Africa for further expansion and fastjet gives them a loan of 90 million ZAR (6.6 million USD) via a third party to do so. In return fastjet is allowed to appoint one director to the Fedair board and not only receives royalty income but is also allowed to buy some (how many?) or all of Fedair's shares for a guaranteed buy price (the 4 million USD call option). Is this correct? If so why is this done through a third party called Parrot aviation in which fastjet has only a 25% equity stake and one of their directors has a 75% equity stake? Any comments to shed some light are welcome.

What I didn't like about the circular was that the following lines about the fundraising were placed at the start of the document without explaining the clear benefits of the planned expansion activities first:

The Fundraising is conditional upon, inter alia, the approval by Shareholders of the Authorising Resolution which will be sought at the General Meeting to be held at 10.00 a.m. on 18 October 2017. If Shareholder approval of the Authorising Resolution is not passed, the Fundraising will not proceed and the Group is at the risk of not being able to continue trading as a going concern. If the Fundraising does not proceed and complete, and, in the absence of the Group being able to successfully agree or implement any alternative funding, the Directors would seek to commence a process of placing the Group into administration. Under such circumstances, Shareholders could lose all or a substantial amount of the value of their investment in the Group. Accordingly, the Directors believe that the successful completion of the Fundraising represents the best option available to the Group.

It is surely not necessary to treat all big investors that have been very supportive so far with words like that. Otherwise the recently reported promise of being profitable in Tanzania and achieving break even in Q4 doesn't give me much confidence. I hope that this is only a small misjudgement by a management team being very busy executing their ambitious growth plan...

I agree, I think that this will move up steadily over the coming weeks and months as they start the release of news.
It is heartening to see a CEO do as much as our man Nico do in such a short time.
