24/6/2023 18:16 | If Wagner get to Tula they will have done better than Panzer Group 4 under Guderian in 1941! | purchaseatthetop
24/6/2023 15:28 | The question is, do Wagner have any opposition? Can Putin muster any troops near Moscow who are actually prepared to kill and die for him? It's all as clear as mud right now, but Prigozhin has already gotten much further than I ever expected, and I think has a chance of pulling this coup off. For sure, things in Russia have progressed from gradual hidden decay to sudden breakage. How long before the Russian army at the front starts to surrender, desert or mutiny as well? | tigerbythetail
24/6/2023 15:04 | It’s recreating the Civil War with the Czech legion who travelled thousands of miles brought Soviet Russia until they died horribly under artillery fire. Wagner is now Voronezh now. Half way to Moscow. Wonder if they have any support. | purchaseatthetop
24/6/2023 09:55 | Looks like things are heating up in Russia. Yevgeny Prigozhin chances of lasting the weekend are slim but he'll definitely be toast before the end of the week I should think. And the loyal Eurasians over on the LSE BB think this a good sign and one that will lead to ending the conflict with Ukraine. TDT | trickydickytwo

22/6/2023 11:43 | TBTT. Exactly. Of course they will blow up the power station. Gotterdammerung. The world will hate the Russians as a race for generations. . Desupplying going very well. The Chonmar road bridge that links Crimea to Kherson and the North has just had Stormshadow alterations. Now you can see the river through it. | purchaseatthetop
22/6/2023 11:40 | Little by little the Russian grip on the south (Kherson and Zaporozhie regions) is being loosened in a war of logistics and attrition. You can see it coming: in the end, holding on to that strip of land will become untenable for Moscow. Which brings us to the second question. Will the Russians blow up the Zaporozhie nuclear power station when they finally retreat? Zelensky has just announced he has intelligence that the Russians have mined the plant's cooling system (which would cause a meltdown if followed through on). So we may be looking at a deliberately-created Chernobyl style event. After all, the Russians blew up the Nova Kakhovka dam, so this wouldn't be all that much of an escalation... | tigerbythetail
19/6/2023 16:38 | who is tm? | ekuuleus
19/6/2023 09:08 | Yes, the Ukrainians got a (probably, the) major Russian ammunition dump in Kherson region yesterday - explosions went on for 5 hours. This is probably more significant news than the taking of one frontline village or another. The Ukrainians will get there - defending Kherson and Zaporozhie regions is a logistical nightmare for the Russians. But it will take time. Months. | tigerbythetail
19/6/2023 06:36 | Good evidence that the strategy of gradual throttling of Russian supply lines is underway. Storm Shadows took out the main railway linking Crimea to the Northern Front. Now no railway supply. Also, they are taking out the Russian attack helicopters that have been causing such difficulties in their ground attacks. These copters can fly low about 7km behind the fighting and take out tanks etc with no risk. I understand that now Ukrainian special forces are ranging behind the lines with Manpads to solve this problem. | purchaseatthetop
18/6/2023 20:51 | Hi PATT! I'm not as confident as you that tactical nukes won't get used. Russia is in the grip of a fascist "death cult", and almost all expressions of discontent against Putin have been silenced (except for calls for even more extreme violence, including nukes, which is allowed, even on state TV). Reality and Russia are complete strangers now. I still think (80%) that they won't be used. But I have doubt (20%). I recommend the Twitter channel of Julia Davis for a useful summary of the kind of nihilistic propaganda that Russia pumps out for its own people. It would make Goebbels proud. | tigerbythetail
18/6/2023 18:07 | Tactic nukes are not press the button things. The chain of command goes right down to tactical levels. Thousands of people have to actually perform to do it. They persons being ordered would realise it would mean the death of their entire families. | purchaseatthetop
18/6/2023 18:00 | but on the other hand, if he thinks he is about to be out of power in 2.5 minutes, he might as well push da button? — putin must surely know that he will be killed by his own ‘friends’ | spikeyj
18/6/2023 17:22 | Spikeyj. If Putin ever ordered use of nukes he would be out of power 3 minutes later. The elite want power and money, not nuclear holocaust. TBTT. Dictators always look secure and all powerful until they aren’t! | purchaseatthetop
18/6/2023 17:13 | TBTT, what do you think are the chances vlad uses battlefield nukes as he teeters on the edge? | spikeyj
18/6/2023 16:59 | Hi PATT! Yes, slow strangulation of the Russian defence in the south. Draw in the reserves, destroy them, and slowly break the supply lines (with the help of the local population informing on the Russians at very opportunity, of course). IMO, it might take up to 3 months to yield results, but I'm fairly sure that the Ukrainians will get there in the end. Things are moving a little in Moscow - Putin's regime is gradually being undermined from within. But we're still in the the "slow" phase of this crumbling. When the "quick" collapse comes is anybody's guess. But I'd say it was only 50/50 Putin is still in power at the end of the year; no better odds than that. | tigerbythetail |
