Brimsley - Alvares was drilled in 1982!!

"The Alvares-1 drilled in 1982 had extensive high gas shows in the Early Cretaceous Stoney Creek Formation. A thick sequence of sandstones, silt and conglomerates were penetrated in the well below 8,300 feet (2,530 metres) with gas shows extending over some 1,500m that were either not tested or improperly tested in the original discovery well.

The gas reservoirs are interpreted from E-log, core, cuttings and test data to have fair to moderate reservoir quality and are older than the Early Cretaceous reservoirs encountered in the Tulainyo-1 well program. Despite at least 3 gas columns being present in the original well, mechanical conditions prevented valid flow testing although a partially successful test did flow good quality dry gas at 0.4 MMcfd to surface.

A more recent reservoir engineering review of the well results indicates that natural flow of between 4.0 and 10.0MMcfd could be achievable from these reservoirs if drilled and completed optimally, using modern technology. "

Last sentence is key here, It appears that Dempsey will need some form of stimulation in the very deep zones to make them viable, hence the shift in the game-plan.

In the meantime, all eyes are on Tulainyo now. They are targeting similar highly pressurised gas charged sandstones of low permeability in the early Cretaceous formation - Lodoga Boxer. Perhaps SGC are now going to let the Yanks have a go ( Cirque and CRC) and see what the results are. There is one common partner in both wells (PCL).
I would expect further news on this well sometime this week. It spudded on the 22nd November and was at 3400ft 5 days ago. Target depth is 5600ft, so must be in the gas zones soon - will they report??? I hope so, the other Aussie partner is MPE, I suspect by ASX rules they will have to.

KevJames,

Thanks for that, I understand.

Brimsley, I prefer to listen to official announcements not the Strachan report which is his perception of matters.

Not a direct answer to your question but the fact sheet below (for a different location) gives some idea of the fraccing equipment required and processes involved.

next zone is G1 read the strachan report the X series are dusty so too may be the G1 any other prognosis is naive in the extreme this will sit like Alvares has since 1972

Just a question for the technical oil and Gas people, I note the workover rig has or is in the process of being removed I assume because it is not required for the hydraulic fracking.

When the fracking is complete do they need the workover rig back to test the 2nd zone or will they be able to tell the flow without it. I assume it will be required for the next zone up which I think will be X4

TIA

Luckily with the 'Filtered' button in heavy use - all I envisage hearing is Blah, Blah, Blah nonsense.

In it for the big rewards here... may take a little longer but positive that patience will pay.

Well stimulation treatment in California

From the section "what is hydraulic fracturing?":-

"During 2014, 652, or 97.46%, of the well stimulation treatments in California were conducted using hydraulic fracturing."

From the section "how often is wst performed in California?"

"In 2014, 669 WST projects were reported to the Division. Of these, 665, or 99.4%, were located in western Kern County. 545, or 81.46%, were located within the Belridge oilfields."

Interesting snippet from the original QA research report linked below.

"Investment thesis
Our investment thesis in SGC is that the company has two multi-TCF drill ready gas prospects ideally located to infrastructure and a market paying premium prices.
In drilling Dempsey prospect it has the opportunity to realise considerable value upside. Its success would also upgrade the Alvares project. Similarly, if CRC moves to commercialise its Tulainyo gas find, SGC’s assets are likely to be re- rated by the market, or potentially be the subject of a takeover by local Californian producers who are facing declining output from mature fields."

Kev comment - The Tulainlyo well could be a big player in the near future - watch this space, I think they will be close to the gas zones early next week.

For balance, the same report acknowledged the following risks:

Key risks include:
• The Dempsey prospect drilling may uncover too small a gas accumulation or flow gas at uneconomic rates to be commercially produced.
• Under-estimate of technical issues may see cost of drilling rise or inability to reach or properly evaluate the target zones.
• A delay or failure to raise necessary equity funding may preclude participation in the drilling of the Dempsey project; or require SCG to farm- out on cheap terms that may materially dilute upside for SGC shareholders.
• Negative moves in gas prices and in energy investors’ sentiment can materially impact the share price.

Kev comment - the above sums up the risks nicely, however, those risks are not insurmountable and the recent increase in oil prices (not particularly gas)has finally given many of the US O and G companies some breathing space(and income). These companies may well now be positioned to start looking for strategic partnerships and in the era of "America first" will be positively encouraged to support the local market. However draw your own conclusions and DYOR.

This seems oversold to me and Im looking to buy more in the coming days. I'm guessing that EME will need to raise some more limited funds as the programme will take longer than expected. Does anybody here have any idea how close EME are to needing more funds? I think even with a small placing, the price has surely hit the floor.

Deja vu. Jumping Gigawatts Marty.

The Delorean has taken me back to 2006 this week, so much share price potential,so much hope and expectation......
Now on big paper losses like many here I guess,my shares are bought and paid for, so no margin calls, or need to cover a T trade gone wrong. Not the share price I thought it was going to be this Christmas.....Hey-ho
