I remember a shorter telling us that ebq will drop to 50p several weeks ago. Well, in one of the most turbulent & depressive market for years EBQ has held up really well. I hope he lost a packet!!!
When are the results out, does anybody know??

here is what hargreaves lansdown have to say about ebq:

ebq is the only computer games retailer in the uk and as such is benefiting strongly from the stimulation to the games market by the launch of sony's new games console.
upturns in the computer gamnes industry have always resulted from the introduction of new generation video games systems. it's good news, therefore, that both nintendo and microsoft intent to launch new consols over the next twelve months. analysts forecast a rise in pre-tax profit from £2.78m to around £14m in the current year ending 31/1/01, a prospective per of 44. a surge in profits to £30m is forecast for 2001/02.

doctorbird, The figure is indeed right. My recollection is that BarrysWorld was a service for on-line gamers which was run entirely by enthusiasts. The company received venture capital in April 2000 and BarrysWorld saw rapid expansion thereafter, but, as often happens in such cases, further funding did not materialize and the company went into voluntary liquidation, hence the 400K figure you mention. The company had invested heavily in its expansion, but lack of capital took its toll. I hope this information is of some use to you.

Can anyone comment on the acquisition by EBQ of BarrysWorld for 400k(Synergy info. service). Is that figure right? "BarrysWorld and NOW(Network of the World) are pioneers in the creation of a truly new spectator sport - online gaming", "perhaps the blue chip of gaming companies(Tim Stott senior producer of Gamer)", "£4m investment in Barrysworld from 3i", all these snippets from the Barrysworld site. This would appear to be a useful move for very little money.
Whilst finding the above www.theregister.co.uk announces today that Gameplay is up for sale.

Pretty good run last week in a choppy market. The fundamental medium to long term prospects still look v/good & I still look for 100p+ at the end of this year.
As the games market picks up does anyone think Eidos will be a good investment at its fairly low price.

doower,

last time ebq rose from around 50p to 72p it rose against net sells. not only that, but the sells were overwhelmingly higher in volum than the buys. however, if you looked carefully, the sells numbered in thousands, small timers, while the buys were well timed chuncks in millons of shares, you guessed it, by the big boys.

now a similar pattern is begining to emerge, although not yet crystalised. look at yesterdays transactions, the biggest is a buy, even though it does not dowarfs some of the sells.

Rising price against net sells today. Good time to in than just watching on the side lines imo.

Last night the candlestick was a three price doji, lack of decision or hesitation before action, so it is not surprising to see movement today. The oscillators have been moving up from low levels recently and MACD was just below baseline looking ready to turn up. Today's move has broken up out of the downtrend so in spite of misgivings about this market I have bought today, my sixth sortie into EBQ this(tax)year.

Good trading.

HANNOVER (AFX) - Sony Corp said it has achieved its target of 10 mln

The group confirmed its objective of delivering 20 mln PS2 consoles in the
2001/02 period starting April 1.
In Europe, Sony has sold 1.5 mln PS2s since the launch on Nov 25 last year.
The company expects to make 1.5 mln PS2s in April. Production volume will

Folks interested in Synergy.

I use Portfollio advantage and the charting facilities are excellant.I find there is plenty to do studying single company charts without being distracted by overlapping.I currently subscribe to a chartists newsletter and find my improved charting skills very usefull and profitable, when i make full use of them.So good luck anyhow whatever package you decide on, it can only, at least, be better than none at all.

doctorbird,
Thanks for that. I haven't had a look at the Sharescope service so maybe I'll take a peek there. I do agree ref. slogging around the net gathering info, having it all in one place is a major boon.

Sorry to all for getting off thread.

melfaraj,
On the LLOY thread I have been exchanging notes with Indieman about the Coppock and so that we don't clutter it up he has just opened a new thread on the subject which can be found with COPP.

Good trading.

Freddy Finance,
The answer is yes. To be more helpful I must describe my needs which are for a very comprehensive service, because I don't have the time or the brain to dodge about the net or anywhere else plugging bits and pieces together. I trade about once a week using technical analysis, primarily patterns. Two particular factors in my decision to try Synergy were a) the quality of the drawing and annotating that is possible together with the ability to project these into the future(useful for warrants) and b) the long price histories available. Disadvantages are a) only one share can be displayed albeit in a multiplicity of forms, whereas my previous software could manage a four way split and overlays of eight different shares in each, b) some incurable bugs which continue to crash the programme from time to time and c) I think that Sharescope is improving at a faster rate and is about one third the cost.

Good trading.

doctorbird,
I picked up with interest that you are using Synergy. I used the service for several years and then let it lapse sometime after they did a rewrite. At that time I felt I wasn't really getting value for money when considering the information that was becoming available on the web. I was quite fond of downloading share price info. but that too is now readily available elsewhere (ADVFN for example). Do you feel it provides useful information and graphing for your needs?

Regards
Freddy

doctorbird,
thank you for your info.
any indicator that give sell signs should be of tremendous interest in such volatile times. you may well know that ic have their own website and i know of a couple sites that specialise in ta, one particular has many not so well known indicators. shall do some research. will advise any positive outcome.

melfaraj,
You are right. The Coppock is not widely used. It was taken up by the Investor's Chronicle some time in the nineteen sixties with modification to the original formula by Harold Wincott, a previous editor. The IC continues to use it on a monthly basis for major indices.
It was devised by Edwin Coppock to identify points of major undervaluation in the market for institutions with strong cash flows and no requirement to sell. It is based on weighted percentage changes and Synergy software includes it with the momentum indicators. I haven't found anything online about it yet.
In spite of the Coppock origins it is at times very good at giving sell signals, particularly in giving leading signals before major tops, a good example was in October 1987 when it gave a good couple of days warning of the so-called crash which started 19.10.87.

keybooard,
Sorry, I know nothing about volume. It is on my study list.

witten,

the reason is that mms are picking this stock on the cheap and the current panic environment.
the same phenomenon happened at the last rise, from around 50p to over 70p. sales well outstripped buys. most of the sell trades were in thousand shares, except of course for the big boys who bought in millions.

So margins restored to 32% after they fell to 26% - that's history, but I've been doing my own research .. the EB shops have a novel type of "sale" at the moment .. for a limited period .. offering to pay the VAT - that's a reduction of 17.5% on many games and DVD's .. most games outside the charts in fact .. and then Core and Eidos say that due to market condiitons the launch of 5 titles is postponed until sep and oct 2001 .. I know the reasoning, but I'm left wondering if the market is now flat and this this more than seasonal?

witten , stay put. I am sure EBQ will reward the faithful, though it might take time. At least people do spend their money here, unlike in Japan, where everyone seems to save it, so don't fret!

Can anyone shed some light on today's present price of 61p?? I find it rather strange that there has been a net sell of about 1.2m shares over the past few 4-5 trading days and hardly any buyers in sight. I am long of this stock and happy to be so since I believe that the medium to long term future is bright for this stock and the computer games industry in general.

ibarford,

i have no problem with people posting figures, positive or negative. they can both be useful to readers.
i would, however, question the validity of posting discrete figures without stating a reference. is 50 p simply a gut feeling or has it been based on some data and research. i guess it is the former, isn't it?

hi astrocat, I totally agree with you ebq is a good medium to long term stock, my comments may have been missunderstood, I belive a purchase of this stock will produce good profits but, I dont belive we should buy yet. Yes am short as I am with many other stocks, You will see a gain in the ftse today poss taking us above 5800 but that will not hold for long. This market as we all know is a nightmere, I will stay short for another month.

Good Luck everyone.

Hi ibarford, I assume you have gone short on ebq hence the attempt to talk it down. So what if it hits 50p, just take a look at the carnage going on at the moment, excellant stocks marked down out of blind fear.
EBQ is a good medium to long term play & should reward those who stay in until end of 2001 or 2002 preferably.
