Bounces nicely off 19p support (3 times I think) so maybe it is time to pump it the other way for a change

Ah, a newbie. You are on a steep learning curve and it can be expensive but be patient and don't let emotion drive you and you can make good money in time. I've thoroughly enjoyed learning over the years but I started (again) at the beginning of the 2003-2008 bull market. It's a lot more enjoyable learning when you are making money! It will be a lot trickier if you are starting now. You will probably lose money in the next recession which is not far away. It might be worth just investing a bit to learn the ropes. When everybody thinks shares are the worst place to put your money and schoolkids think there will be no jobs for them in future. That is the time to go all in.

I've read a couple of explanations of auctions - matching all buyers and sellers on the order book at a mid-price that suits all. It sounds simple - and yet I often see auction prices outside the trading range of the days before and after. Clearly, something is amiss. Why would an aution seller take less than was being offered before and after, or a buyer pay more? Clearly, it is not so simple. Closing prices listed are sometimies the auction price and sometimes they are not realistic. I don't know why but you have been warned.

So how does the auction work nd why was 23p the opening auction price ?

It is not a 9% fall. It is just ADVFN reporting which will go from the offer to the bid and back again as buys and sells go through and even then in a rather random fashion that often does not update in a timely fashion. It can be very misleading. The spread actually went from 21.75/22.25 to 21/21.75. That's a drop of 0.625p or 3%. The 23p price quoted for a couple of hours this morning was actually a misleading opening auction price. There has been no other trade yesterday or today that high. Auction prices can be very misleading and ADVFN's weird system chose to run with that until after 11am despite it not being representative of what was going on. Beware ADVFN's price charts!

I like trying to help people freddie. With some sensible analysis. Bull and bear cases. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one. Most on these boards are just thick, clueless souls who will lose all their money, while I just quietly accumulate.

It's currently at the bottom end of its recent trading range, and walking, waiting for news.

You like posting on threads don't you!
