Nobody would suspect that the dividend has risen by 25% and is twice covered.

I've trimmed some short but the red timeframes remained in force all day. New signals tomorrow but it could see a decent test of the bottom of the triangle before a bounce.

No two ways about it, that was an absolutely rubbish day.

SMDS now massively underperforming the FTSE250 for 2014.

Euro weakness, pricing competition and tough trading conditions.

These factors were surely all known

Can`t remember such a negative shareprice reaction to results being released.

It`s 'under review' that`s why there`s no target - would think they`re going to drop it.

Thursday 26 Jun 2014

LONDON (ShareCast) - In spite of the negative reaction to DS Smith's annual results on Thursday, Investec has recommended investors 'buy' shares of the consumer goods packaging group after its report "tick[ed] all the boxes".

"We see these full-year results as solidly in line with our and consensus expectations in what remain difficult end markets," the broker said.

Pre-tax profit surged to £167m in the 12 months to April 30th from £82m a year earlier as revenue increased 10% to £4.03m. Earnings per share climbed 25% to 21.4p.

Organic corrugated packaging volumes grew 2.2%, ahead of the corrugated packaging market.

"Corrugated box volumes were broadly stable during the second half, ahead of target and show continued market share gains," Investec said.

The broker has placed its 390p target price for the shares under review.

Despite the positive comments, the stock was down nearly 5% at 290.2p by 10:25 on Thursday.

Agree matt, chartwise looks awful.

I`ll be looking to buy back the 50% I`ve sold earlier today but not in one go.

Below 298p breaks the month. Red on the quarter, month, week, day and 60. Full time frame continuity to the downside in full effect.

Well, the market`s underwhelmed by those results.

300p looks set to go , and if 295p doesn`t hold a fall back to 270p is on the cards.

Sold half my holding.

Results preview:

Paper and plastic supplier DS Smith issues full-year results with broker Investec not expecting any surprises.

The company is one of the broker's top picks for 2014, and though it highlighted continuing difficulties in its end markets in its pre-close statement at the end of April, it also said second half volumes were ahead of expectations and it was taking market share.

"There is a wide consensus range at the adjusted profit before tax level (£204mln-£266mln), giving a mean of £241.8mln but a median of £259mln, which is in line with our £258.9mln," the broker noted.

"We expect good volume growth in Germany and E. Europe, leading us to suspect that 2H EBITA margins in DACH and EE & Italy could be above our forecasts while the UK (poor weather) and France (macro weakness) may be lower. Group margins continue to improve y-o-y as SCA synergies come through although paper profitability can affect some regions more than others," Investec added.

These broker targets are usually on a 12 month outlook and I would have thought 390p is fair number.

" The GfK consumer confidence indicator for Germany resumed its upward trend and beat consensus with a revised reading of 8.9, beating consensus forecasts for an unchanged reading of 8.5.

"Analysts at Berenberg said the number reflected very positive fundamentals for German consumption.

"Plenty of jobs, rising wages, fading uncertainty and low inflation should help sustain consumption as a robust driver of German domestic demand and thus also of Eurozone growth," the broker said in a note on the data. "
