26/3/2019 16:48 | Often an early warning signal for investors - they are the canary not the coal mine. If you look at the likes of DEB, IRV, CLLN, CNT etc, it underscores the point. They don't always get it right, Ocado one example. | essentialinvestor
26/3/2019 16:36 | It's a free market and shorting is part of it. Without shorters, Globo would still be trading. | lord gnome
26/3/2019 12:06 | Cyclicals getting a kicking today on weakening macro. | essentialinvestor
26/3/2019 11:12 | SMDS pays 4% dividends, it has a low PE and good potential for share price recovery. I would forget about volatility for the next 6-12 months. | alotto
25/3/2019 09:00 | In terms of whether this is a good time to buy, firstly that depends on your investment timeframe, can you afford for that invested capital to be tied up etc. Usually the best time to add cyclicals is just coming out of recession, rather than in what may be a late stage economic expansion. However, that's in very broad terms only and exact timing is next to impossible. | essentialinvestor
25/3/2019 08:48 | There looks to be something other than sector or stock specific factors at play. It may to be a questioning of whether the current expansionary economic cycle is coming to a close. To me that still looks a big assumption, however it appears to be what some are positioning for. Many cyclicals, with nothing to do with the packaging sector, are well off their highs. | essentialinvestor
25/3/2019 04:53 | Have been looking at this stock for sometime and feel now might be a good time to buy. Any thoughts from any holders would be appreciated | snorky123
24/3/2019 20:45 | Mark I think the market is becoming more conscious around packaging, sustainability etc. My feeling is that the whole industry is being hit as there will be a reduction with the use of (necessary)packaging material, especially is not recyclable/recycled, resource-intensive for its manufacture, etc. DS Smith sold its plastic division and invested in eco-friendly processes for the manufacture of their packaging materials. I wouldn't be that confident shorting DS Smith, considering that the share price has fallen considerably since the latest highs. However I would get rather nervous below 300p, that is where I would set my stop losses. | alotto
24/3/2019 07:35 | FT tearsheet list Short Market Activity as Low ' | togglebrush
24/3/2019 07:25 | I can see why some of those are on the list but why SMDS. It seems a bit extreme to me. Any ideas.? | marksp2011
22/3/2019 15:37 | Yes EI - your post 2801 hadn't appeared on my screen. I must have been checking out the shorttracker website when you posted. | alan@bj
22/3/2019 15:19 | That's what I've just said, short interest (on Short Tracker) is below 1%, there may be smaller positions, there may not be. Moorsie posted he is short SMDS, that's not going to be picked up by Short Tracker!. That site is usually a good guideline. | essentialinvestor
22/3/2019 15:13 | Is it though? According to www.shorttracker.co. | alan@bj
22/3/2019 15:08 | There is less than 1% on Declared short interest on Short Tracker. Short interest may be a larger % as below 0.5% are not listed on ST. Marshall Wace have had some notable recent successes on shorts. does not necessarily mean they are correct on SMDS - and their short position could be a hedge on a long position elsewhere. | essentialinvestor
22/3/2019 14:55 | The reason why this is one of the most shorted in the UK is...?? | alotto
22/3/2019 09:32 | Just when I thought we had finally said 'goodbye' to 350p! Brexit jitters again? | lord gnome
20/3/2019 09:08 | Thanks EJ - food for thought. Cheers, PJ | pj fozzie
19/3/2019 17:16 | A family investment company? You got any links where I can read more? IHT is something playing on my mind. Cheers, PJ | pj fozzie |
