Everything up. Perfectly good business, as it was 6 months ago and will be in 6 months time. But some chinese woman was arrested in Canada so sell everything. Down 6%! I question why I'm even in equities at this point, clearly newsflow is the only thing that matters.

Yes but you then repatriate your profits and a weak pound means foreign sales are especially valuable.

You don't export boxes
You make them where the customer needs them

Nick, it's wider than UK companies - Mondi, International Paper, SKG... etc.
International Paper is valued at near 20 Billion USD. This is sector wide, global,
regardless of market cap.

Everything british that isn't a megacap multinational has been caned for the last 6 months because foreign investors have dumped stock at any price because the political risk is huge (hxxps://citywire.co.uk/funds-insider/news/investors-pull-10bn-from-uk-funds-since-brexit-vote/a1161632). And I don't blame them. We have literally no idea what the political/economic/regulatory/tariff environment is going to be like in 3 months time. There are just much better places to put your money than UK sterling earners.

Ds smith should be an exception of course because they have significant foreign revenue and operations but I don't think anyone is being particularly discerning at the moment.

Moorsie, would defer to your sector knowledge,
however fair also to mention the significant wider sector de-rating
of the last few months.

Probably a UT if it was timed 16.35 so not a single trade.

Interested in the results tomorrow.Packaging sector seems to be well oversold considering the growth ecommerce.

To pay 2bn euros for Europac is insanity.... this is what is damaging your share price.

Rumour has it SMDS refused to pay 900m for it less than 2 years ago... seems like the CEO was too eager to grab market share and made the mistake of over paying based on multiply earnings at the upper end of a cycle

For Thursday

Miles Roberts, Group Chief Executive, said:

"We are very pleased with the performance in the half year, in particular the margin development, and the continued excellent progress and integration of Interstate Resources. We continue to see strong customer support to our innovative sustainable packaging, responding to the dynamic requirements of our customers. We expect good ongoing volume and market share growth, look forward to the completion of Europac and view the future with confidence."

I hold a small amount of SKG, however the sector is too volatile atm
to have much conviction.
If you're a pessimist the rapid sector de-ratings of recent months
may point to the current cycle rolling over shortly.

If that is the case, would also expect some sharp counter trend moves,
particularly given the rapidity of share price declines.

Phillis, not sure Amazon being a major client is a plus!,
however accept e-commerce growth being supportive.

Update will be interesting.

There was industry news yesterday, covered by the FT today -
China cutting imports.

I timed that wrong then, lol.

SP here seems to be affected by an abnormal gravity source. Ever since they released an update saying "ahead of expectations" it's been nothing but down. Someone taking advantage of the close period perhaps. Maybe shorts will be closed before next Thursday. Perhaps not.

Business cycle, brexit, whatever. All the company can do is keep increasing profits and find new markets to ameliorate any macroeconomic or national decline and that's what they seem to be doing. Sure they can't hedge against the heat death of the universe but give them a break.
