Extended warranties a complete waste of time on an appliance that costs less than £300, even a TV. warranty that might cost a few thousand pointless, they are so reliable these days, and I would go so far as to say a washing machine, cooker or fridge is a damn site more necessary than a TV. Had my fridge/freezer(Hotpoint) for twenty years, and still working ok when I last looked! Do not bother with E.W., a complete and utter racket, more important in a motor car perhaps, shelled out a few grand recently, ceased extendinding warranty earlier this year after having had seven years, irritating but that is life!

Got to disagree there. For some time now DC's business model has been to compete with mainstream internet companys such as Amazon.

Even though that often means they make little or no money on the main product (after costs) but they then make their money selling you products and services like warrenties, support services, anti virus software cables credit, ect ect all of which are highly profitable.

Within the company these are referred to as KPI'S and everyone from the store manager to the sales team are measured on them, last I heard there were over 30!

In fairness that is where the bulk of their profits come from along with the highly lucrative mobile phone contracts and thats why a downturn in this area is such an issue to them.

One area they have traditionally been very successful is warranties.

Just look at a TV as an example at £600 it costs £6 a month from day 1 to cover when you already have a manufacturer guarantee of at least a year so they only have to pay out for accidental(when was the last time you had to claim for an accident to a tv?)so thats £72 in the first year in the bank for them for the vast majority.
Over 5 years thats £360 if the customer does not need a repair, highly highly profitable for them and one reason they do not publish how much they make on warrenties as its quite embarrassing.Last time I heard they were selling it on 1 in 3 tvs sold and it only ends when the customer cancels the direct debit so could go on for years.

So basically although I agree they have some big issues and the Carfone tie up is starting to look like being a big one I don't think their survival is in question just yet as they have plenty of highly profitable income streams and are still expected to make over £360k this year.

All imo dyor ect.

yup up

On the back of good news?

Day traders football currently ..

There is no substance here.

Will be gone eventually this company .

I has no capital of any kind... It owns nothing ... Has no USP ... it is as empty as a shopping bag

It cannot compete with online.

The great thing about this company is the way that the merger with CPW has been such a success .

Clearly this is what has contributed to the success of the whole and brought the shareprice to the giddy heights it is today.

No doubt Mr Dunstone and Mr James must be very happy with what has transpired as it will have greatly contributed to their collective wealth and prestige.

I bet if they could turn the clock back they would love to do the whole thing again.

Bet they wish they could merge with HMV as well...

hmmmm....

I have to give to the bulls

This has been an impressive performance by this stock since closing price (180.8p) on the 24 august 2017 (the day of the smart phone news)

The bounce back has been something to behold.

Shorts trending higher on Euroclear

6.77% of stock was out on loan for August

Up from 4.5% for June.

Euroclear very useful tool for watching short interest

The market capitalization differences between Dixons and AO World is ridiculous because Dixons is 12 bigger than AO World, but only three greater in market value.

Also, Dixons pays dividends, produce cash earnings and have the stronger brand, whereas AO World produces losses year-after-year, despite sales growth and requires £110m from investors to stay as a going concern.

However, I previously stated my concern of a goodwill write-off (which hardly anyone is discussing). And since the trading update announcing profits downgrade that write down looks very likely and is the main reason for the 30% collapse in the share price.

The thing people don’t like about this merger is the goodwill created from it. And overnight the combined business of Dixons and Carphone Warehouse is worth an extra £1.5bn on their balance sheet.

Anyway, if you are interested in the 11 reasons why Dixons trump AO World, the full version is here:

or post 4010 on the DXNS board

I have been on these boards a very very long time

"when the facts change I change my mind"

(Happy to change them again if presented with new facts ... )

But as things stand this looks like another Woolworths to me.
