i've always thought their customer service is rubbish, but they seem to be taking share of UK electricals so i'm not sure what it says about the competition

As Tim3 says it's more about the way they try and SELL it to you. It's not a case of " would you like " but " you must have".

isn't insurance a good thing when you're buying a handset for over 500 that can be dropped or stolen very easily?

Dixons have been very clever as far as the fsa are concerned.

They changed the product from an upfront to a mostly monthly one which can be cancelled at any time but in practice most people just forget about it and don't

This does not stop the pressure selling techniques they use particularly with computer equipment and phones.

Are the FSA going to be all over them one day for hoodwinking the consumer with unnecessary overpriced insurance ?

Overpriced insurance which is in truth only bought by the credulous and the vulnerable

It's a case of getting all the doubters out of the way and then they should hopefully start to move up steadily. Can I get insurance on the price not going up. Lol

Similar chart to yesterday...back to 180p in the afternoon!

dc. at least pay its fair share of tax...i'd be surprised if amazon do the same. the uk govt need to tackle these big firms once it leaves the EU imo.

yeh insurance on phones is now a standard add on for those that don't already get covered by premium bank accounts.

Yeah and in fairness they really don't have much choice its the only way they can sell at internet prices and still make a profit, just look how many electrical specialists have disappeared over the years.

I also never take the insurance, they make a huge amount of money from it particularly as they try and sell it you from day one when most things are already covered by manufacturers warranty.

Tim 3Must agree I do find the whole "do you want insurance" for this and that rather annoying but let's be honest all types of industry do exactly the same. Annoy all the same.

Sometimes i think that you can tell a company is in trouble just from the increased number of posts on the ADVFN bulletin board. and the increasingly personal and desperate tone of the posters.

A quiet board often signifies the opposite - a boringly profitable company with a sound balance sheet.

This is not always the case obviously.. but it is surprising how often there is a correlation.

Ref pricing Dixons business model is simple they sell at or near Amazon prices then cover their overheads and make profit by selling "add ons" and services.Last I heard stores had about 2o kpi's to hit. This is why you will get pressure to buy insurance as a poster indicated earlier, this often increases in difficult times.

You're correct sir. I did the same with DiscoDave4 and everyone followed shortly after. He was the same a UA . No position but loved to put the boot in and also had a foul mouth.
