More Director buying reported today.
They don't want to scare the shorters too fast.

Diversified Energy Company PLC (LSE: DEC) announces that that Sylvia Kerrigan, Senior Independent Non-Executive Director of the Company's Board of Directors (the "Board") recently transacted in ordinary shares of 20p each in the Company ("Ordinary Shares"), as set forth below.

Ms. Kerrigan acquired through the market 1,020 Ordinary Shares at an average price of $11.50 USD per Ordinary Share on September 27, 2024. Following this purchase, Ms. Kerrigan is now interested in 3,181 Ordinary Shares, representing approximately 0.006% of the Company's issued share capital.

The vast majority of the short build was December 2o23 to July 2024 was circa 4% below 1000 and 4% above

So without getting into individual breakdowns of price and volume, I reckon they are around 1000 average

And since the turn on DEC they added about 1.4% let's call that breakeven as I didn't check the addition average

They are doing OK

So the real question is, why are they at circa 10% when they could escape easily without cost, if not confident today?

Staggering claim for something trading just off record lows

But a safe estimate is that the rise from 0.66% short from January 2024 to present was within a 1270 to 840 window Didn't check the average price.

Given the share price today is 860s, I would think the majority are above water

However, not by a huge amount

Either way, whether you think they are aggregate profit or loss right now, the main issue is that most of the shorting has been in this window per se

I suspect higher shorts on DEC is a product of US shorts on shares being more prevalent than in the UK. As Oakboke has eloquently explained, moat DEc shorts are underwater to breaking even. Only a couple shorted from much higher levels

To give an example

If shorters see market calling a short on an instrument at right price and so on, it's a standard short. If a director buy appears at that time?

They double the short

Director buy was a sham for liquidity imo
