LLB - the likelyhood of getting it wrong more times than winning is why I've only commited 1/40th of my shares to the experiment. 😁

The one thing which might work in my favour is the 15% withholding tax. If the share price drops by the whole dividend value, the 15% tax saving might make a few pennies above the dealing costs & spread.
It's a recently retired thing. I'm playing around with things like this because I've become time rich.

#Fordtin, interesting strategy to try and trade around the dividend for gains, often considered it myself, but over a few years of holding I concluded I would get it wrong more times than win so elected for the hold, collect, reinvest and build approach.. :o)

Anomalously, Sterling is falling against the greenback, which means the dividend and the asset value are both growing when converted to Sterling.

Nothing wrong with selling a few except the timing which is poor , just as the stock was showing the green shoots of recovery. I think that's been their problem of late . Abandonment of the buybacks followed by snap placing right in the middle of a serious stock decline. They will find it difficult raising money in the future with this self inflicted weakness hanging over the shares

We're getting trashed by the bad macro data today, it's a sea of red out there.

Capital gains tax is less that higher rate income tax. Selling before it goes ex div makes sense.

Whilst I agree there are many reasons for directors as well as investors to release some money there can be no excuse for the abysmal timing….
Rusty should have said NO, I’ll lend you the money, don’t rock the boat.
Absolute tool ! No excuse at all.

@fordtin is right in that the only thing that can really be confirmed by a director selling a small part of his holding is that there is nothing material not reported to the market.

We cannot set a timescale for the rerating of the stock so IMO best to simply take the dividend until it moves up.

@topazfrenzy - that's crazy (IMO), goes ex-divi tomorrow - one more day and at least you would have got the divi. He also sold on the 22nd and snce then the share price rose (up to the RNS). Directors sell for various reasons and as the share price has been so delfated these last couple of months, I'm not too concerned by a 250k transaction. Still expect these to rise a little later today as investors look to secure the dividend.

I can't complain about the director dealing, I sold 1/40th of my pot yesterday.

I'm experimenting with the theory that selling before xd and buying back after xd can be more lucrative than collecting the divi.

Blimey fordtin, you're getting a bit philosophical in your old age ;-)

Have you also got a sideline in greetings card verse?

Director deal - 1/12th his pot -
Has not been taken well
It tells us not much news is due
Because he shares can sell

Director dealing signals that there's no price sensitive news due.
Good in that there's nothing bad to report.
Bad in that there's nothing good to report.

If the long fall was the work of manipulators, they must have been working overtime across the whole oil and gas sector!

Reassuring to see some successive rising days; it would do sentiment no harm at all if we can get above 100 and hold 3 figures. We will know whether the clouds are really lifting over the DEC share price when we see how the price reacts after we go ex div.

Definitely DEC was bashed down by the manipulators and with the help from the market makers since the shares raising in February 2023. Going ex div on 25 May , this week.

That's it in a nutshell Cassini.

I would only add that for reasons I will never understand tax is based on the market price rather than price at which gas is sold. As the operation of the whole gas supply chain depends upon forward selling/purchasing, that is another respect in which the 'accounting' (in a different sense of the word)flies in the face of reality.

Reassuring to see the share price up on the week. I had almost forgotten what an up week looked like!
