Libertine

Didn't King Canute say something similar? - he did it to prove to his subjects he was not a God. He was no fool, he knew the inevitable would happen.

One person does not make for a 'wider negative audience' - Us freeloaders can't vote down anyway - we can only vote up.

All the drivel on this board wont make the slightest difference.
Company will meet forecasts
Company will keep dividend
Shorters will have to buy back before they make a penny.

Once the share price goes lower than 40 pence I am to revise downwards in my header, which I predicted I would do some time ago.

justiceformany,

You are outnumbered mate, this company is not in a good state that is why its being shorted. Waste of time mentioning eps and profits they keep getting downgraded.

As for net assets like others have said they mean very little. With regards to Mike Ashley he stance is unknown his purchases in other companies are very questionable. Its not the first time he has taken a punt in a crock.

Lots of crazy bots hitting both bid and offer over the past few trading days Monty.

Been good action on Level 2 between 40.25p - 42p

Going by the volume there is a big seller around.

The only positive thing I see for DEB is their past resilience in trading through tough times in the past.

Without a collapse in profits (instead a steady decline in the medium-term) then there is still hope here. Probably why the shareprice is holding up pretty well.

Bricks and mortar retail as we know are finished, Amazon seen to that. Cost cuts go only go so far, what attraction for a failing sector?

Ok they are trying new things redesign etc good luck to them, to me its like shuffling deckchairs on the Titanic.

Simply voting my posts down just because you don't like the content is childish. Go ask him, it's one of the most shorted shares out there.

If it is such a basket case why is it still making decent profits and Mr Ashley continues to increase his stake in it?

Woolworths.co.uk[edit]
Main article: Woolworths.co.uk
The Woolworths brand and domain was bought by Shop Direct Group, owned by Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay, on 2 February 2009. The company announced it would relaunch Woolworths as an online retail store. The website was launched on 26 June 2009.[84] It was entirely independent of the former Woolworths Group. It has been closed until further notice since June 2015. On 13 October 2015, the company finally dissolved and the website went defunct. As of 11th April 2017, the 'woolworths.co.uk' URL redirects to Very.co.uk. In April 2017, multiple news sources reported that Woolworths may possibly be re-opening, nearly nine years since it closed, after former director Tony Page confirmed interest in acquiring the Woolworths name from Shop Direct. What do you think they would get for those intangible assets in a fire sale? - don't ask me, answer than question and then apply your own logic.

A lot of it is proprietary software - a lot of 'Goodwill' - research how much the Woolies name went for - arguably older and more precious.

In the event of a profits collapse or fire sale those intangibles would count for nothing. Exactly what happened with Woolies.

All companies carry 'intangibles/goodwill' on their balance sheet. M&S carry over £700M in intangibles/goodwill. Granted the intangibles are higher here than some you can't seriously be claiming all £962M is 'faulty' or due to 'bad accounting'?

How much do you want to write off - £200M, £300M?
£500M??
We still have equity of £457M

You can't deny the ultra-low P/E, high yield or solid dividend cover.

Without the intangibles here there would be a negative balance sheet.

Too many headwinds to see any upside here at all.

Deb has the potential to do a Woolies IMO.

You really think those intangible assets are worth all that money? Take them away and see what's left!

EPS for H1 only was 5.8p

Now H1 is usually stronger than H2 but even assuming only 1p EPS for H2 gives a P/E now of just 5.9 and dividend cover of 2x yielding 11.7%

Finding a share that trades around book value is very rare.

Even the super-caps trade at many multiples to book value.
GSK for example 15x book value
AZN 3.3x book value.

Debenhams has net assets and total equity of £957.1M

Book value is 78p
Price to book value is down to 0.52

No wonder Mr Ashley and others are so interested here.
The shares are now trading at HALF the book value of this global business.
