27/2/2017 11:11 | seems unlikely to me that the UK would want either the European printing houses to print the new passports now or the USA printers. all fingers point in my opinion clearly to De La Rue. Now the UK will have soon regained its sovereignty, it necessitates in my opinion that all printing of notes and high security documents like passports will be handled by an onshore, UK domiciled security printer. Who else in the UK other than De La Rue has the track-record, capability, trust and undoubted reputation to carry out those functions? De La Rue are now in my opinion in a much, much stronger competitive position than they had been for decades under the EEC. No-one will convince that the BoE and HMG will now seriously contemplate using off-shore printers for these vital functions. In my view, De La Rue look exceedingly well-placed to capture the lion's share of UK bank-note and security document printing in a Post-Brexit world. ALL IMO. DYOR. QP | quepassa
27/2/2017 10:52 | New UK passport "likely to become a defining symbol of Britain's new identity" ......De La Rue is also pitching to design and produce the new UK passport, which was put out to tender by the government last October – ironically, via the European Union's electronic tendering journal. "The term of the current [passport] book design and manufacture is a 10-year cycle and the tender's timing with our exit from the European Union is quite coincidental," said Payne. "The passport is a unique symbol of national identity and a critical piece of national infrastructure," he added. "As such, there will be huge expectation on the development of this design, which is likely to become a defining symbol of Britain's new identity and relationship with the world." | philanderer

23/2/2017 17:00 | slowly but surely. funny old company, dlar. very shy of publicity and keep themselves out of the limelight. no problem with that. just their own house style probably driven by some of the security conscious nature of their work and their link to HMG as printer to The Crown. a year ago it was 410p. Today 610p Up 50% in a year. great recovery. the prospects for their Note Printing look better and better in my view. with Brexit et al, can't really see anyone else taking away the business of The Realm and DLR will surely benefit. Also bank-notes around the world are being changed by so many nations. Personally, pretty upbeat. And all the time a very nice 4.25% yield to boot. Keep the faith. ALL IMO. DYOR. QP | quepassa

09/2/2017 19:55 | Mid-caps catch up: FTSE 250 shakes off Brexit woes Strategic winners Holly Cassell, assistant manager of the Neptune UK Mid Cap +fund, said when it came to currency it was important to look at the companies that would benefit from a real boost to their underlying trading, not just improvement off the back of exchange rates. She said the FTSE 100 was made up of lots of companies that would benefit just from the ‘translational impact’ of currency movements without growing their businesses – what is known as ‘financial winners’. ‘Where we think the most exciting opportunities lie is in "strategic winners" – that is those mid-caps which were indiscriminately sold off following the Brexit vote but experience a double whammy benefit from the weak pound,’ she said. These companies generate revenues in foreign currency but pay costs in sterling meaning they benefit from a margin uplift. Cassell gave the example of bank note printer De La Rue (DLAR +), which ‘has a global customer base but for which the UK is a designated centre of excellence for its banknote printing business’. | philanderer
08/2/2017 13:02 | River & Mercantile UK Long Term Recovery fund ....The team is also hoping for alpha from other industries, often where events such as a change in leadership can trigger improvement at a business. Examples include De La Rue, which prints banknotes, and software and professional services company SDL, both of which have recently come under new management. “De La Rue is more than 300 years old,” Mr Lough said. “The perception is structural decline. The previous management, in our eyes, didn’t seek to change that proactively enough. “But a new chief executive has come in and challenged existing practice and has a big focus on return on capital. “Once we strip out the structural headwinds for the business, there are some interesting elements. Polymer has a 5 to 10 per cent share of the market and could grow. Also, most governments now want to dual source [and could use De La Rue].” | philanderer

30/1/2017 10:18 | Uganda: Fresh Row Erupts Over Money Printing Deal ........The other companies the ministry of Finance has invited to submit bids amid growing opposition from Bank of Uganda, include the Mühlbauer Group, a one-stop-shop technology partner for the production and personalisation of cards and passports, and De La Rue plc, a banknote printing, security printing and papermaking company with headquarters in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England, which has printed Uganda's currency for the last 50 years, also voiced its objections.
