'Market report: De La Rue suffers worst day since Brexit vote'

De La Rue, the world’s largest commercial banknote printer, suffered its worst day since the Brexit vote after Citigroup warned a smaller rival could disrupt industry returns.

Crane Currency, the fifth biggest operator by market share, is building a new banknote print facility in Malta, where De La Rue also has one of its five facilities.

The new factory, which is due to open next year, is the industry’s first new facility for decades. In its wake, Citigroup downgraded De La Rue’s rating to “neutral” from “buy” as it believes Crane’s $100m investment in Malta could “bring back oversupply”.

Analyst Ed Steele said: “The combination of new technology and clearly high aspirations could undermine industry pricing.”

Shares tumbled 24.5p, or 3.7pc, to 639p, marking its steepest one-day loss since June 24 last year.

I believe that they have a good grip on the business now and can continue to move forward.
Yesterday, I saw a report about the death of notes in favour of contactless payments. The pundits may be too optimistic in their forecasts.
What excites me is the potential growth in security products the roll out of which could create a very good profit stream.
