Believe that De La Rue will (finally) be in for some good/strong years ahead as markets are highly likely in my view to turn positive for their products.

For example, so many countries are changing/evolving/renewing/updating their currency notes with

1. significantly enhanced cutting-edge security printing,
2. new types of higher quality paper/substrates/polymers becoming standard
3. many countries withdrawing high denomination notes.

Who can fail to be anything other than totally impressed by the new £5 note with its polymer "window", holograms of Her Majesty's head, Big Ben and the Royal Crown and the feel/touch of the note? It makes the current £10 and £20 notes look dismal by comparison - and makes them likely in my guess also to be ready for updating and withdrawal sooner rather than later.

The other big swing factor for De La Rue which is the proverbial Elephant in the room is Brexit and the massive re-printing and redesign of so many security documents that this will entail.

This will be a true bonanza in my view for De La Rue and the urgency of Brexit will likely make prices/profit-margins for these services more buoyant rather than highly competitive. - In my view, the big PLUS for De La Rue from Brexit has likely not yet been fully factored by the market into future prospects for De la Rue whose fortunes, in my opinion only, look set to prosper significantly.

The market is in my opinion turning much more favourable for De La Rue after some time in the doldrums.

ALL IMO. DYOR.

'Plastic £5 note maker snapped up by Canadian labels giant'

Innovia, the manufacturer of the new plastic £5 notes that contain animal fat, has been snapped up by Canadian label and packaging giant CCL Industries for CAN $1.13bn (£680m).

The Wigton-based company, which has about 1,200 employees, is currently owned by a consortium of UK private equity investors managed by The Smithfield Group.

It is responsible for virtually all of the world’s polymer banknotes to date and has been in the spotlight in recent weeks after a vegetarian outcry over the new UK £5 notes.

Northern Echo:

'Gateshead firm, which is also known for making money, says agreement will boost prospects'

A banknote and passport maker has agreed a £20m security business deal.

De La Rue is taking on Du-Pont Authentication.

Bosses say DuPont, known for films and holograms that validate electronics and spirits, will improve its money and passport security arm.

Last month, The Northern Echo revealed De La Rue, which employs hundreds of workers at its Gateshead factories, could make passports for the post-Brexit era after officials refused to rule out work on new travel permits.

Hailing its DuPont move, Martin Sutherland, chief executive, said: “Government and brand owners around the world are increasingly focused on protecting identities and their supply chains from counterfeiting.”

Speaking to the Echo, Mr Sutherland said De La Rue would be willing to support any travel changes, having already helped the Passport Office on a new-look permit, which includes enhanced security features.

He added: “We would be delighted to work closely with the Passport Office.

“We have been working with them for a number of years.

“So, if they came to us about alternative designs, we would be delighted to help.”
