This has been a welcome recovery in the share price No news nor bid rumour that I can see. So based I think on a sectoral observation that housing demand is holding up and extreme fears about a recessive UK economy are proving unfounded. Several commentators and analysts have printed negative statements though, as if CRST is the builder everyone loves to hate, pointing to the cost of replacing dodgy cladding ... more than the £140M provision?

Despite which buyers really piling in.

The forward p/e is only around 11 even if CRST suffers an eps decline from 42p to 25p, at which level the dividend still looks safe. I might defy the anti-CRST narrative and hold on for some good news in June.

No I was just making the comment that there is a lot of money out there seeking to park it in undervalued situations

When you say "next" salver2, what was the previous takeover by PE; something in the housebuilding sector?

Is Crest next for private equity-still trades less than 30 percent below book value?

Crest lagging behind the sector again today. A fantastic mid term buy and hold IMHO

IC gave CRST a Sell, although as a contra signal that may be useful.

Tbf I get their point about uncertainty on future post Grenfell remedial work costs.

All fair points - it's a bit of a perfect storm for house-builders. OTOH, current assets less all liabilities amount to 306p per share, so there is that.

Help to Buy ended at end of Oct.

The scheme gave FTBs upto 20%(40% in London) 5 yr interest free loan.

The scheme ending has yet to impact HBs. It's still early to see it's impact.

Tax rises, energy price rises, mortgage interest rises all impact affordability. Tax and energy price rises from April onwards.

Regarding JP Morgan broker's note - this seems odd given that JPM were recently a 5% holder

Decent results and I like the statement on selective land acquisitions - an opportunity to steal a march on its competitors.

I see this as a progressive and well-managed business and am very happy to hold.

I thought so as well those idiot brokers no nothing J p Morgan reduces their target from 2.40 to 1.70 and put them on what they called negative catalyst watch! Do J P Morgan think a profitable housebuilders is worth less than half their assets - oh by the way J P Morgan the share price is 2.65!

Monthly changes can be blips, but the UK's largest lender, Lloyds, is planning for an 8% price fall next year.

Mark, there may be additional liability on the cladding issue,
one of the reasons CRST are holding on to a large chunk of cash.

Mulling over last week's trading statement. A good full year financial performance and considerable net cash representing about half the mkt cap, justifies the "robust" strapline. No reason why we should not expect a 12p+ final dividend, which would cost about £32M. Understandably shelving expansion plans with forward sales down about 20% on last year. No attempt to predict future financial performance which will obviously shrink but could remain profitable, Truscott clearly keeping focus on margins.

Surprising then that CRST is still trading about 150p or 40% lower than this time last year, the drop has built in an extreme worst case and does not properly value the business or the dividend.

I watch you two on you tube, great. Take a look at Glencore, especially with winter the price of Newcastle coal should boost profits from that division.
