Cogent statements ORDB .

I bought shares here last week .
I bought CPP card protection in the past .

I think the share price will recover .
I`m undecided about making a claim :

Exactly when I bought my CPP policy , I`m not sure . I bought it because I was travelling around Europe a lot in the 1990s . I remember using their services when all my cards WERE lost . I remember them being very efficient . They cancelled all the cards , arranged for new ones , and I had no hassle , NO further problems . I think the policy at the time cost 28.00GBP pa . I remember being very satisfied at the time .
However , I suspect I bought the policy of my own initiative , I don`t recall any pressurised sale . I don`t know if my policy would be covered . I will have to research the claim process to identify validity . I think I ran the policy for about six years - 168.00GBP . I have no idea what I `Might` be entitled to - if anything .
From an ethical perspective , I don`t really think I have a claim .
From a financial perspective it looks to be negligible .

SO , from somebody quite close to the issue - I`m undecided - which on balance probably means I`ll let it drift !

[ As a ps :
A few years ago ; BA , American Airlines and Virgin were forced to set up a 75 million $ (?) compensation scheme for fiddling the fuel surcharges . Customers who had taken flights between 2004 2010 (I think , don`t hold me to the precise numbers )were entitled to compensation .
I worked out that I might be due a rebate of some 90.00GBP , for myself and my family for whom I had also purchased tickets in that period .
In November last year my family got 0 , I got c. 14.50GBP !
I couldn`t be bothered to dispute it . ]

The real question is how much damage had been done to CPP going forward - can they keep the 71% renewal rate? Interesting times

So in three years "only 1 in 10 people who could be eligible to claim have so far done so." That is for an average payment of £3k.

It doesn't take a genius to see it's nowhere near going to be 1 in 4 in CPP's case where the average claim is around £170

It is estimated that over 35 million payment protection policies have been sold within the UK and the consumer watchdog, Which? expects that banks will need over 20 billion pounds to pay for the compensation claims. Only 1 in 10 people who could be eligible to claim have so far done so.

I just stated facts.

You are asking questions which you need find the answers to yourself (not really relevant to this thread).

Why do the banks keep increasing their ppi balance sheet provisions when reporting their results if only 10% have claimed?

Now here's a simple fact. Regarding PPI compensation just one in 10 has made a claim. That is for a claim that averages £3k. So only 10% of those that could have claimed actually claimed.

What will it be for claims that average around £170 ?

Average PPI claim is £3,000. Appx 30% is taken by the claims companies. That's £1,000.

Average CPP claim is est to be around £170.

PPI claims is estimated to total around £25bn

Sorry but if total compensation is 1.3 billion some claim companies will get involved. They have tried it on with about every financial product going! I am not a bear/bull on CPP but it is hard to put a fair value on the shares with so much up in the air (compensation levels/future renewal levels etc)

As for the Time's article... they've just iterated what known in the market when the re-financing deal was announced.

Comparisons with PPI claims is stupid and far fetched. That was worth £1000s per customer. In this case it worth at most a couple of hundred pounds. So claims companies aren't going to bother.. not worth their while.

Well after reading the Sunday Times today I would be worried that over 25% of effected customers might seek compensation - the losses could be enormous if the claims companies start to advertise aka PPI
