Both excellent appointments, at least on paper, and as you say Catabrit good that they are focusing on margins rather than revenue.

Which stock was that Rogue? RTN? I think the two non executives are great hires based on their background.

Also interesting to note the emphasis on improving margins and operating profit.

Its depressing alright. Last week had my 3rd stock in a row bought out cheap. Shows I can pick the under-value but it hurts not to get the full recovery in the take out price.
Hopefully the UAE boys will stop that here as they are on record as not intending to sell but interesting that todays RNS blurb on the new Non Execs mentions increasing value prior to a sale.. lets hope not.

It looks like we are headed to 50p folks. I have been building cash in recent weeks so have plenty of firepower to capitalise on any dislocation but I am likely all Costained-out! Anyway, I guess we will soon find out if sub 50p beckons. One day we’ll reverse the trend that is hitting 61p and heading back down again. But we might have to wait until March / mid next year. It’s all a bit boring but it is what it is.

If we hit net cash again, I might have to do an Odysseus and tie myself to the mast to avoid the siren song that is a free option on FCF. I’m a sucker for that type of mermaid.

The fact that neither of us can answer suggests there is some ambiguity over Euston. Originally I thought it was a done deal but the BBC reported yesterday that it wasn’t without private sector backing.

Yes but I think that's just the code for resi and retail development opportunities is it not?

So it looks like Euston will not be happening without private sector investment.

They are and that needs to be taken into account when analysing what they say.

Easy to say that. The money will be released incrementally behind a veil of smoke and mirrors. Personally, I feel we need to commit to these projects and just Fu*King do it! Move on to the next one and just improve as a nation. We are miles behind. We're just lucky we have a small country, otherwise with policy like this we'd be screwed.

I thought it was an excellent speech. I am glad he has axed HS2. Hard decisions with immediate short term pains are typically the right ones. He pledged to spend the entire £36bn saved on levelling up.

Euston was confirmed.

Sunak says he will spend all the money saved from HS2 on rail links etc in the North.

It’s a good sign the wheels are falling off the train when the CEO gets his coat.

The death of HS2?

You are welcome Rogue. No point paying the monthly subscription if I can not share the good stuff with my fellow thread contributors.

I think it will settle some nerves. At the end of the day, facts beat headlines. And so even if there is a cancellation tomorrow I now expect the share price response to be pretty muted for both Costain and peers.

To give Sikh credit, perhaps he was right in that HS2 noise was preventing this from breaching that all important 62 technical level we’re all hawkishly watching!

Thx for posting that.
Yeah you have to go to Euston. Who would pay the price of a ticket to decant at OOC?

So pleased that they have abandoned HS2. It doesn't matter how much money we throw at it, it was always going to be sh*t before it was even designed, just look at Indonesia's new 'Whoosh' train -217mph!. We can't even out-do a fr*ggin developing country!!!!

Just putting my dummy back in and coming out of self-enforced Costain chat board exile to say that I can not stand that ramping clown. He should be reported.

Whilst I’m here, if you haven’t done so already then I’d recommend you look at the recent investment pledges / business plans for the water companies. The numbers for the next cycle are massive. You can find them in the various RNSs.

"When companies issue SCRIP dividends, it means they are giving investors the option to receive additional shares instead of a cash dividend. SCRIP dividends are exempt from stamp duty and dealing charges and means the company can keep cash within the business."
