FYI warns this morning of increased DDoS attacks on private business.

"The nation's top law-enforcement agency said more attacks are likely because Mirai's source code is public, allowing anyone with technical expertise to set up his own "botnet" of hacked computers. Researchers say other hackers over the past few weeks have used the Mirai code to launch daily small- scale attacks, typically against gaming websites or rivals.

The botnet takes control of consumer devices and reprograms them to bombard victims with billions of bytes of unwanted data, a technique known as a distributed denial of service, or DDoS, attack".

I reckon this is a company with huge potential going forward. DYOR etc.

British bookmaker William Hill has been recipient of a sophisticated DDoS attack for the previous week causing scores of punters to be unable to log in and place a bet.

Liberia has been repeatedly cut off from the internet by hackers targeting its only link to the global network.
Recurrent attacks on 3 November flooded the cable link with data, making net access intermittent.
Researchers said the attacks showed hackers trying different ways to use massive networks of hijacked machines to overwhelm high-value targets.



The source code for Mirai has been widely shared and many malicious hacker groups have used it to seek out vulnerable devices they can take over and use to mount what are known as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

It’s feasible that within short order we could see attacks large enough to take down internet exchange points, or IXPs, the literally backbones and hubs of virtually all web traffic on Earth. If that happened, then the potential damage could be catastrophic.
