How much of that gap to 600p will it recover as the results approach and shorts close?

It is starting to gather momentum.

this stock is nuts. Results 4 Aug. Large recent fall. No reason for it. Good results from GKN yesterday. OUGHT to be dynamite.

Looks like good support again today, no reason IMO this can't break through a fiver again in short order before the results. Last results saw them up above £6 with upped TP and earnings upgrades....outlook will be all important....

Meanwhile Credit Suisse noted:

We believe there is positive read across from the bid for Tomkins to Smiths Group, which we think is a potential seller of assets on a two-year view. We also highlight Cookson as potential read-across with stock trading at a very attractive valuation in our view.

restassured - you seem to be obsessed with shorts. Only 4% of stock out on loan in June according to crest data, nothing exceptional.

The big question is how close to the results do the shorts wait, until they close?

This has been massively shorted down from over 600p in the last few weeks.

When the shorts get squeezed,we could see a vicious rally

07/15/2010 08:49:41 - MARKET TALK: Investec Upgrades Cookson Group to Buy From Hold

0649 GMT [Dow Jones] Investec upgrades Cookson Group (CKSN.LN) to buy from hold, ahead of its interim results on Aug. 4. Thinks Cookson has been oversold, and 2H '10E and FY '11E will be better than the stock market appears to be anticipating. Says, "the current US 2Q results season, followed by that of the UK, is arguably more important than the company's results as a barometer of global economic health and we think this should serve to reassure investors and see the shares go better." Meanwhile, expects the tone at the interim results will be cautious but broadly positive. Cuts price target to 600p from 620p. Shares closed at 432.3p. (andrea.tryphonides@dowjones.com)

This stock has clearly been massively shorted.

We are a long way of the 921p price target.

Those shorts will have to close some day soon.

I expect to hear howling bears as they face the brunt of a bear squeeze.

Sid, I worry that the UK Gov (in private) would like a dose of inflation as it would help wipe out UK gov and personal debt (But also person savings, like the 70s)

The quantitative easing seems so far a free get out of jail card for the gov (and if by mistake it set off inflation, "Oh dear" they would say, it didn't
happen last time when Labour used it
