14/7/2009 12:20 | Cricketer - it is no good at all posting on this thread and expecting advice from any shareholder/mate of barstletts - yes, you need to apply to the administrator but, if you want these lot brought to task - report their behaviour to any body you can - they need to be stopped once and for all - they have been ripping people off for a good few years and appear to be getting away with it!!!! I would like to know when you parted with your money and what it was for - if you are prepared to divulge. The other person who MAY be worth speaking to is Matthew Goodman at The Sunday Times - he has been building information for a long time now. | winning_streak
14/7/2009 12:08 | I am not a new poster here read back and see, I stepped in then out when the price rose( and said so that I felt it was the bets thing to do) and made some comments over the management who seemed to be making a mountain out of a mole hill over selling a hugely profitable cuppa.# However there is no need to procrastinate over what is done as I know there are amny hurting and hurting bad. The name of the game now is to try and salvage what you can, if you can, as normally the Private Shareholder, being as he is, at the the back of the Q gets nowt. But if you have been rooked, please done let it go at that. Just keep watching Barty and jump when you feel the need to based..... UPON PROOF OF MISDEALING. | carwhite
14/7/2009 11:56 | Hi Cricketer, I am a shareholder - well was :) I think that if any of the franchises want to try and recover some of the deposits then they would have to make a claim to the administrators - However, as with all companies in administration, unless you have the deposit/funds secured on something and can prove this, you will be at the end of a very long queue of creditors. The sooner a claim is made the better. Having being through this with other companies that have entered administration and being a non secured creditor, I would say you chances are slim. I am not defending CFE board, but, it is out of their control now. Quite frankly I do not see the point in any more pokes at the management. We all should be focused on trying to get what one can (In my case nothing), for franchisee, I would say they need to look forward and plan for that, maybe allocate less that 5% of their effort trying to recoup funds. | welshg
14/7/2009 11:55 | ws, Since no one has been convicted of any crime, calling CR management 'a bunch of crooks' is libellous. | jaf1948
14/7/2009 10:32 | oh dear not another scam, trading whilst insolvent taking deposits whilst insolvent if kpmg do not look closer at this | crdirect
14/7/2009 10:31 | Morning All First time poster pls go easy! Are there any prospective/intended franchisees here that have placed deposits/franchise fees etc which they are now trying to get refunded either from Coffee Republic or the Administrators? Thanks in advance. | the cricketer
13/7/2009 20:13 | You really cant say that can you! If that is the best excuse you can find for CFE failing....well? Running a coffee shop is easy(business wise but long hard hours work wise) if you have good management and a good footfall. A cuppa costs less than 20p and sells for a cheeky £2.50, or more at outlets like CFE However at my friends they sell a cuppa for £1,20 and are always packed. Just a thought for any of you wanting to pick up CFE bits and pieces. | carwhite

13/7/2009 18:30 | My take on the saga. They've tried to nurse it through, probably got close to making it, but the recession has had for them as franchises haven't happened due to lack of finance for the franchisees. They've no doubt cut a few corners on the way, and I suspect the dealings with people such as crdirect were bordering on the edge of morality, depending on which side of the business you are on. But the old leases have simply been too much for them. The final straw was the Florida franchises - I bet that was done for just a few dollars to try to keep them afloat. Wouldn't be surprised to hear that whoever got the US franchise has got the whole of the US for peanuts. I was finally convinced that this was bound to end in tears when barty said on here that the Staines store "had paid for itself many times over" (think that's his words). No way on earth was that ever true - it was always empty and I doubt ever covered the rates bill. let alone the service charges and rents. The brand has some value (but has taken a huge hit with the bad PR on going bust), but needs decent management and a respect for the franchisees that I don't sense has happened for a few years now. The company and the franchisees must be a partnership for the brand to thrive. It clearly hasn't been. Re the Scottish property - the laws are different North of the border. Privity of contract doesn't exist, so guarantees are always more likely to be called on. I think that if B or B get it, it'll never get anywhere. Needs someone fresh to reignite the brand and the relationship with the franchisees. Well over 6 months now since I offered to put Barty in touch with some private equity guys who could have sensibly taken it private. Greed meant he didn't take me up on it - his loss I suspect. | krod mandoon
13/7/2009 18:16 | crdirect, You see conspiracies and deceit everywhere but it just doesn't stand up. CR were not insolvent - the last balance sheet showed that, and then they had some deal with Tchibo for their sites which must have also brought in some money. Who is 'they' who have saved their skins ? Barty and Peter have two separate bids in - at best only one will win and both could lose. That means one or both of them will lose around £1.5m. You are bitter because you have lost some money. But no-one has come out of this well so stop your name calling and come back to the real world. | jaf1948
13/7/2009 18:04 | jaf the companies been trading whilst insolvent ,they saved their skin by shafting suppliers and various franchisees....if that doesnt class as being conned throw in the fact they bought back rdfs from their friends... scum vile scum | crdirect
13/7/2009 17:35 | JAF - good luck with whatever you invest in next. A gentleman. | krod mandoon
13/7/2009 17:32 | It's so nice seeing the vultures circling. What has happened has happened. No one has died, and anyone who has lost more than they can afford (which includes me) have only themselves to blame. Perhaps Coffee Republic will rise again in another form and hopefully I can be part of it and it can be successful. crdirect, you feel that you were conned, but I have never believed it and still don't now. ws, you are a nasty piece of work whoever you are. I am 100% a shareholder and nothing else - I welcome any investigation since I have nothing to hide. hammy, well, he was right. I admit it and will move on. | jaf1948
13/7/2009 17:25 | paul tell me about this meeting you had with breach and bartlett where they told you what a bad person i was | crdirect
13/7/2009 17:03 | Well I trust you've learnt your lesson ? Listen to your elders and betters in future. | krod mandoon
13/7/2009 17:02 | I removed it quickly, as I know you are popular here. I've just lost a small fortune, so really, don't push it, I might just react badly to it. | paulmhammond |
