srp i agree with you on many things but CINE - wht makes you so optimistic here?with streaming, closed cinemas, increased debt etc i can only see this going bankrupt - what am i missing?all of the signs point to this being a sector to be extremely cautious of in 2021hope i am wrongaimho

I thought Santa rally and dash to trash would push this higher

yes, which beggars belief - one of the most highly indebted ftse company's stock up on day when the entire mkt is down...certainly not worth 60p or even 40p for that matter. cinemas will now be unlikely to open until May / Junefurther cash calls etc etci dont short individual stocks but if I did, CINE would be top of the list

Yes it has made it quite clear closed until April/May,
funding in place and gearing for a rebound in custom once
the US and the UK and Europe get back on their feet, and they
will.

Notable that CINE hasn't participated in the recent little re-opening rally

Film lovers are slowly returning to cinemas – why am I the only critic rejoicing?
New box office figures prove cinemas are much-needed and perfectly safe – even in a pandemic. Why is it controversial to point that out?

Part article

--------------------

So was WarnerMedia’s experiment successful? That’s tough to say definitively. It’s a sample size of one movie, and we’re forced to work with limited data from the company. But at the very least, we have some good evidence that there’s plenty of pent-up demand for popcorn flicks.

Yes agree that is why I continue to increase little by little,
22m UK residents over 50 likely to be vaccinated by Spring, that
is the age group that need to be protected. Once that done the
restrictions will ease and the country and world will be back
on their feet, imho.

Can't see them paying back all their rent outstanding, doubt landlords are going to voluntarily waive it, so likely to happen at some point

CEO of AZN hinting in Sunday Times (behind paywall) that the full dose/half dose will get regulatory approval The AZN vaccine can be rolled out much quicker than the others - so if - and it's a huge if - it's going to get regulatory approval showing 90 plus percent effectiveness then this has to be a short term boost to CINE (of interest to day traders; less for any long term holders as outlook is still very challenged)

Commercial free-to-air channels have no real reason to compete for audiences across the Christmas(post mid Dec)/New Year period as there is little demand for advertising space - in fact the lowest advertiser demand/revenue period of the entire calendar year.
The BBC and subscription streamers/channels should dominate across the Christmas/ New Year - basically anyone not funded by advertising.
Strange but true.
Actually believe Bridgerton on Netflix cleaned up on Christmas Day.
Sorry not really relevant to Cineworld's investors but ‘srpactiveR17; brought it up!
For Cineworld my view is that until there is greater timeline clarity I would go short above 68p and go long below 50p but I worry Cineworld won’t survive long term - too much debt and too much disruption from many angles!
Cineworld is a trade not an investment.
Just IMO

wonder wonder on itv next week, the streaming
figures were so obviously brilliant not.
The ten with home cinemas must have seen it then.

Streaming on TV is essentially replacing cable/satellite subscription TV not free-to-air terrestrial TV.
Streaming films was replacing DVD/BluRay but since the start of pandemic has replaced cinema certainly in the USA - check out the Tenet numbers.
Not convinced the cinema numbers will ever return especially in the USA - the USA will be the largest problem.
Europe, China etc might have a few years left.
But I wish you the best.

The "structural change to streaming" is from traditional TV.
That is one of the weakest arguments that has been repeated so many times.
I worry for those that can't see it.
Thanks for the good wishes, same to you and all others in their investment choices :-)

Amazing. You clearly don't understand the risks here. The time line of the virus is extremely tight even ignoring the structural change to streaming. But good luck to you.

Boix poor effort, read the article again.
That timeline is for a normality of being back to FULL theatres feeling comfortable.
Journey starts March/April according to article improving through summer and getting to fall with those FULL to capacity situations feeling relaxed for people.
Awww shame that doesn't fit as you thought for a deramp.

Short might be the right call?
It’s touch and go as to whether another round of refinancing is required according to Dr Fauci new time line.
‘......The U.S. could return to some semblance of normality, like safely eating indoors at restaurants and going to the movies, by the mid-fall if enough people are vaccinated against the disease, White House coronavirus advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Wednesday....’
