Rather boring being told I'm short of something I'm not short of and have never been short of - my mistake on that front - should have bought puts when I finally exited a near decade long position on the return of capital fiasco I went long recently on CNK - as much better risk/reward - I've taken profits on that today - will research Imax/Reading and consider putting some cash there Niche/upmarket with balance sheets that can cope with lots of capex is what I'm looking for as a long term long

Used to be illegal for the movie houses to own cinemas in the US - but that rule got overturned last year If I'm Disney then why not go full streaming and buy the best cinema outlets out of C7, having the best cinema locations would be great for branding/events

Third Point are one of the most successful activist investors - of course they've racked up many losses - but they are pushing Disney to go full streaming And if that happens (and still a huge if) it's C7 timeAnd a cinema future of a few small/upmarket operators/imax

Well that is the short view, fair enough.

This could I would have thought pushed the cinema management
to get the cinemas open as quickly as possible.

And smartie you say you are not short, when did you short 25p?

Consolidation talk next, GS all over itv.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see advice that the short position has increased on Monday.

Turnover, margin, costs.

Poor turnover, inability to increase margin, and increasing costs.

Fkd?

Cineworld Says Cinemas Best Place For Movies Despite Warner Bros Move
Fri, 4th Dec 2020 15:39Alliance News
(Alliance News) - Cineworld Group PLC on Friday hit back at AT&T Inc subsidiary Warner Bros' decision to release its 2021 movie slate on a streaming website alongside theatrical releases.

Warner Bros will release its entire 2021 slate of movies on HBO Max streaming and in theatres simultaneously.

The announcement follows Warner's earlier decision to release "Wonder Woman 1984" on Christmas Day via its streaming platform at the same time as the big screen - a radical gamble for one of Hollywood's biggest studios, which the industry had widely assumed would be a one-off.

Cineworld responded Friday, saying: "Cineworld was aware of WB's plan to release Wonder Woman directly to its streaming service, which has been announced at a time when our cinemas remain closed in the US and UK.

"We are very encouraged by the giant steps achieved recently with regards to the Covid-19 vaccination process, which is expected to be put in place earlier than previously anticipated."

The cinema operator said the potential vaccine will generate "significant relief" for the industry and enable "cinemas to make a great comeback".

The decision is expected to affect at least 17 titles including the much-anticipated "Sopranos" prequel "The Many Saints of Newark," and DC superhero sequel "The Suicide Squad."

Before the pandemic, blockbuster movies ran only on the big screen for a theatrical window of around 90 days. The "hybrid model" will see films available on HBO Max streaming in the US for one month from the date of their theatrical release.

Cineworld said: "We believe that at such a time WB will look to reach an agreement about the proper window and terms that will work for both sides. Big movies are made for the big screen and we cannot wait to reopen our cinemas in the first quarter in order to offer our customers, as always, the best place to watch a movie."

Shares in Cineworld were 13% lower in London on Friday afternoon at 63.34 pence each. AT&T was 1.6% higher in New York at USD29.70.

Who opened a short this morning? Probably a CFD. Opening price 59p so a 5% margin would mean a 56p position. That wouldn't look that great either...

In the hands of the Gods over the weekend. Lets see what happens Monday.

No it won't. Instant streaming will mean quality piracy arrives on the day of release.Shot in the foot for film companies.

Disaster of a business, it's the equivalent of Debenhams.

Instant streaming release will kill this, wont be missed.
