24/11/2006 15:41 | Wow. What a difference a day makes. | iandippie
24/11/2006 15:39 | Yes, Cambium, just saying to the wife that we won't have to sell the house after all. In fact I might have enough cash for a Chinese, as long as we go for eat as much as you can for £5! | rochdae
24/11/2006 15:39 | Glad i held firm hopefully a decent trading statement on it's way........ | c3jns
24/11/2006 15:20 | nice intraday reversal. | iandippie
24/11/2006 14:46 | rochdae, all is good :-) To be honest, I think that is the worst thing about charts. When you have a good solid fundamentally driven company and it begins to shows signs of a weak chart, it can really mess with the investment head. Should we take profits or not? Would it have been better to take profits in May when the chart got weak? Or was it better to just hold and wait out the 4.5 month consolidation period? Everybody has different investment requirements. Those who 'own' the shares can afford to wait and laugh off any falls in the overrall market as the price is sure to recover sooner or later. But those on spreadbets have margin requirements to consider. Each to their own I guess. Excellent recovery today. Now to see how the US does.. | intrinsic value
24/11/2006 14:39 | rochdae - You don't have to explain. You make a good living from these people's (otherwise quite intelligent, I must say) mistakes. | gaean0
24/11/2006 14:29 | Intrinsic, Never had your name in mind to be honest. Just commenting on how these things are played out, and why so many lose. | rochdae
24/11/2006 14:21 | Not very scientific I know but Robbie Burns is showing no signs of selling charter today so this adds to my confidence, he says .... The worst faller for me today is Charter - nothing wrong with the company, it is mirroring falls in the FTSE 250 and a few worries about the weak dollar. It's a great company and will bounce back. Same comment to Hunting. | larmertree
24/11/2006 13:53 | Its not often one gets referred to in the 3rd person, but seeing as I am the only one who posted a chart, I would assume I was the 'chartist calling reversals'? I never called a reversal, I merely pointed out the supports. One thing is certain, they targeted 870p where they knew most of the stops would be hiding. They reached it and lo-and-behold the price stoned. Most of the stops were triggered. Perfect play. I am not sure whether this recovery is due to fresh buyers moving in or as a result of shorts closing. I hope it is a result of both.. | intrinsic value
24/11/2006 13:07 | Same old story. Chartists calling reversals .. panic, stops hit etc.. Then the buyers return and those stopped out have to watch the share price recovering. A painful sight. You'll find many buying back in only to see the share price go down again with stops hit again....etc... And that's in a good market! Reckon the trading update will be Monday or Tuesday. | rochdae
24/11/2006 11:42 | Steeplejack all dollar exposed stocks getting hit.Rate should stabilise by mid next week -this is superb for trading today. | pwcarnall
24/11/2006 11:33 | Happens so regularly it's worth setting up a reserve "free" account with the opposition. | steeplejack
24/11/2006 11:29 | That was annoying in the extreem ADVFN having connection problems again. Anyway, I think this company has good fundamentals so have taken a chance and bought more at 864p. I am hoping to see a close higher than that today after the US markets get back online. | larmertree
24/11/2006 10:35 | Ref. my earlier post (see below), my timing was slightly out but I have posted it again as it will be interesting to see whether the game is now played out. I am not pretending I know how it will pan out, just sharing my thoughts again. If the market as a whole takes a dive, then I guess the game plan changes. Have a good weekend. Tillman - 5 Nov'06 - 20:39 - 1338 of 1506 edit ref. 870 has to hold ...I guess it won't hold then!....the share price is so volatile and so easily moved (or so it appears) that I reckon 870 is what everyone is looking at and whoever is controlling the share price at present will take 870 out. Why? ...cynical old me reckons the share price will break down through 870 and take some stops with it and then new shorts will be instigated or existing ones increased. The game/strategy will then be worked out. I reckon that a share price of around 860 will do the trick but predict it could hit 855 before the players turn the tables and take the share price up...probably quite sharply judging by charter's volatility. Please note that I am not de-ramping here as I believe in chtr and hold stock...am just expressing what I think will happen. I personally could do with a lot less of the volatility and chtr is no longer my old favourite even if it's nice and cheap. | tillman
24/11/2006 10:29 | ouch, some slippage there, stopped out of 805 longs. probably bounce back to 900 now. Yes agree SJ, it is a bit concerning. Ftse 250 50% of last leg up is around here ie 10560, but maybe it is going to 10500 | shoee62
24/11/2006 10:06 | Hit Keller,Cookson....ni | steeplejack
24/11/2006 09:55 | I think a few more as well looking at the drop..... | c3jns
24/11/2006 09:53 | Well, that has stuffed that. A 5% fall, now that is something to write home about. As soon as it lost that 870p, it just dropped. Looks like many stops were hit. Sure is ugly. | intrinsic value
24/11/2006 09:44 | cheers IV, i wonder what will unfold, i've already hit my stop loss so i'm currently out, but looking for a new entry point. | joycey2
24/11/2006 09:38 | First Fib retracement is +- 863p. But I would feel rather uncomfortable with that level as it would mean we have a lower low. I would certainly expect the 868-870p level to hold. I have a feeling that if it doesn't, there will be chartists out there that will bank profits. | intrinsic value
24/11/2006 09:33 | Close to my stop loss........ | c3jns
24/11/2006 09:29 | Certainly getting a bit ugly out there. Hardly any volume though. | rochdae |
