I have never invested in FOGL and only post when I have something worth saying. You can easily search for my posts. However I dislike fantasists and have a deep mistrust of people who are found telling lies. If you can explain why you lied about being in The Savoy when it was closed and everyone, except you it seems, knew it was closed, it might be a start.

As a holder of Char along with Afr for 3 and a half years it is not extreme points of view that worry me. I have see plenty of those! However when someone lies about something which is provable with public knowledge how do you distinguish what is believable from the lies in everything else they write/post?

Hi Bambooman,

Thanks for the post. I am aware that falklands has 'a bit of previous'. Often, he adds value to a bulletin board but then, occasionally, he is prone to being a bit extreme.

Given his well publicised multi-millionaire status, it may appear to some that he is too tight to pay the £5 a month Advfn subs to be a blue poster.

However, I understand that his reason for not paying the £5 a month is so that he can indeed be moderated as he is fully aware of his extreme points of views and his own apparent inability to self-regulate his posts. By avoiding being a blue poster, it appears that he has implicitly agreed to being moderated.

As such, I am happy for him to post here unless he has an uncontrollable outburst. If that happens, then I may need to administer a dose of moderation.

falklands.... take it with a smile. I know you'll be a good chap on my BB ;)

Triples, you may know Falklands but Afren holders had a nasty experience with Chrisoil back in 2009. Just posted on the Afren board.

Falklands/Chrisoil

I knew I remembered the name and the Savoy stunt.

Bambooman 8 Sep'09 - 09:12 - 48610 of 119687 0 0 edit

This is my first post on this board but I have been reading for many months the excellent analysis and insight which is of great reassurance to a long term holder. However my reason for posting now is that Chrisoil would have had some difficulty in being on his mobile in The Savoy because it closed on 15th December 2007 for a £100m restoration and is not due to reopen until 2010! Can't wait to hear his explanation for that.

Care to explain?

On the shots question - you cannot lend what you do not own. So no one can be loaning out the shares you own Triples.

Short interest is very low... analytics.squaremiledata.com for good reason...when the fireworks starts then shorters will get burned :-)

The closed period applies to the directors and insiders.

If the owner of the shares was an insider, then no.

Thanks Triples, makes things more intreiging. Can a company lend during a closed period?

As far as I am aware, there can be a delay between the borrowing of the shares and the the shorting on the market, backed by those shares.

A shorter will ask to borrow x,000 shares and then have them available as collateral for shorting at a later point.

There is a cost for borrowing... 3% of the value of shares borrowed plus a daily charge. It is a way for IIs to make more money from the shares they own.

What would be really galling would be if the company I hold my shares with then decides to lend them out to make their 3% plus daily charge at my cost, literally.

HTH.

There's no need to try and ramp-up or second guess who's-who-in-the-zoo when trying to determine the potential of offshore Namibia. The points in my short summary below are, in my opinion, enough good reason to back Chariot to hit the hot spot.

It's true that Namibia's offshore basins have been hyped up because of the geological similarities to the very large hydrocarbon-bearing structures on the other side of the Atlantic, offshore Brazil. Geologists will tell you if you look at a map of the world you'll notice that South America and Africa seem to fit together like two giant jigsaw pieces.

So if the continents were once part of the same landmass, then the geology of southwest Africa should be similar to the geology of coastal Brazil. And since Brazilian waters are so oil rich, the Namibian coast might be too. At least four enormous oil and gas discoveries have been made in Brazil in recent years containing a total of over 20bn barrels of oil reserves in the so-called pre-salt basins (located more than 4km below the sea bed, underneath a thick salt layer). An identical source of rock type and oil fingerprinting is right there offshore Namibia.

In 40 odd years about 20 wells in total have been drilled offshore Namibia and, to date, there has only been one significant discovery, the Kudu gas field. This gas field is majority-owned by Tullow Oil, but has never been developed due to various security or political issues, huge capital costs and technical challenges. (I think Tullow Oil is now talking about developing this field with it's partners).

Angola, just to the north of Namibia is a major oil producing nation. There are many other top oil producing countries in West Africa, where over 10,000 wells have been drilled, but Namibia have only begun exploration in earnest recently. As I've said they've drilled less than two dozen wells in an area that's roughly the size of Spain... so there's quite a bit more exploring to do.

We know that BP and Petrobras are in Namibia hedging that this country may be the next big thing, but there's also a strong rumour that Shell and South African major Sasol could be joining them in the not too distant future.

I got back into Chariot just before the meltdown, but I bought some more last week at 27p to average down to 59p. I'm fine with that, in fact, I'm quietly confident for the future.
Good Luck Everyone.

Triples, may I ask a question on short selling as some here are concerned.

When a short is taken out, ie shares are borrowed, are the shares immeadiately sold on to the market or can they be held in reserve so to speak and traded on another date.

Trying to work out if stock on loan has actally been traded, or is there a bit more mystery to it. Just puzzled on that point

Lanaken, I think there is more than just a HRT farmout on the way this quarter. It has been 30 days since the PW dealing so we could soon be in for a nice suprise. This a strong buy at these levels IMO esp right now since we are reaching the 30 days since the PW purchase.
