Latest news French owned EDF energy customers hit bill hike of 1.4%. I wondered if this will have a full page spread like CNA had, I'm sure they are going to call a French firm Greedy!!

keep the faith jp.
you are a veteran of the GLEN days.
It must have been your darkest hour for a while when they hit 69p.
But your Churchillian spirit saw you through.

I hope this recovers for you jpjohn, it’s possible you could even turn a profit, if it’s any consolation the amount of money you have invested here if it was in a bank/ building society would be peanuts compared to the dividend CNA will be paying you.

It is difficult to know what to do.
Hindsight makes fools of us all.
A while back I did trim my CNA holding, although I still hold plenty.
I bought some VOD, Marstons (the pub.brewery chai)n and topped up with out of favour MKS with the money.
All of these were out of favour and trading like CNA at lows.

My portfolio looked better balanced and sensible.
But how would I have felt if CNA had made a sharp recovery?
No such luck, it continued to fall so I felt smug and smart again.

It helped with last years CGT also.
Nothing to pay..he ultimate sign of failure.

Well said careful. Unfortunately I'm in at the deep end, in hindsight should have sold early on and maybe bought at the share price at the moment. I have two option really. One would be collect the dividend, let it go up again and call it a day and reinvest that money elsewhere, or just sit back and forget about them. In May they will have paid me 11,760 pound in dividends. And if the pay that for the next 2 years after that it will be a total of 35,280 pound, in just about 2 years from now. Things might change but this is what I'm planning to do

For long term investors I wonder if the share price matters at all.
Warren Buffett said that in the early days he did not even allow computers in his offices.
He did not want the share price checked on a regular basis, not important.
Mr.market is irrational, but offers a good entry point if he gets the price wrong.
All that really matters is cash flow, profit, dividends, assets and long term prospects.

As far as CNA goes you have to feel sorry for investors who held the shares 2-3 years ago when the price was £4.0.
Obviously they should have sold.

The rest of us, especially those who bought below £2, should look away.
This company could take years to re establish itself, maybe after the next election.

The problem with CNA is that there are hundreds of alternative investments to compete with it. So there will be very little buying until the picture clears.

What I find strange on ADVFN, this is a free app. It's the only one on live share feeds. There must be thousands of people look at the share price and read comments. Why is it only a handful of people comment on here ?

"Centrica was feeling the heat yesterday after analysts at HSBC predicted that the owner of British Gas would lop a quarter off its dividend payout next year. HSBC told clients that it was cutting its recommendation to “reduce” and was downgrading its price target from 150p to 120p. HSBC cut its forecast for earnings per share for this year by 8% and for next year by 17%. Next year’s dividend will be cut by 25% because it will need to invest its spare capital in chasing growth."
