...and only recently Ferrybridge and Eggborough power stations have been closed down because they would have wanted some money spent on them. Peanuts to what is going to EDF!

For those that may be interested there is a few articles on EDF’s ambitions to build Nuclear reactors. Makes for very interesting reading given CNA is selling its 20% interest. The Times source

Few Highlist regarding the Hinckley point Nuclear EPR

It will cost us tax payers £50 billion in over the odds in bills over 35 years
Hinckley Point C reactor will produce 7% of UK needs
EDF’s , Flamanville was suppose to cost €3.3b and start 2012
They are now expect it to cost €10.5b and start next year
Welding quality of the nuclear pipes have been questioned
As well as Hinckley point they now want to build Sizewell
They want to start getting paid upfront from the government for the Sizewell EPR

Having read the article I’m lost for words. The government is bullying the likes of CNA to reduce the prices and yet shelling out Billions to EDF of France in subsidies to produce Electricity here.

Totally agree with you careful, I said in a earlier post I think what they all think is we should provide a service and no profit. I see why so many new investors are just holding back here. The Government need to make the mind up do they want to see a business running here or not. If CNA cannot see a profit here they will just diversify to something else just to survive

Our tariff is still in line with the others looking at the table even after this rise. Over-reaction again.

On the Daily Mail and Tory front.
I read how an influential Tory politician, close to the Energy team, referred to Centrica's 'obscene' profit.

Very worrying for shareholders.
As a % of turnover the profit is pitiful.
a small % reduction in prices on average would wipe it out.
Look how the share price has collapsed, we should know.

He referred to % profit compared to equity value.
Equity value is very small with utilities because of the high debt required to build up the infrastructure required.
Regulators used to allow a return on assets, and compare it to indexed linked gilts.
But Gilts yield have been screwed by QE.

The risk to Centrica is political and public ignorance.

When you get a day like this you might as well not look until the end of the day. All it does is make you angry, unfortunately Government etc papers just think you should provide a service and no profit at all. Do you see this when a foreign company puts the price up, no you don't, but a British company and that's different.

not that simple, Portside
There is a regulatory review underway and the Centrica management will no doubt be in daily contact with them.
They know much more that we do.
There are no simple solutions.

I agree careful, you only have to look at the papers, Daily Mail - front page British Gas Greed. Tory MP let rip into them as well. What they forget is this is a private company trying to make profit. Unfortunately these people have no clue how to run a business.

They know what they are doing.
It will have been thrashed out and argued about.
These decisions are difficult.

Centrica is being hit from all sides politicly.
Conn has made his decision to run this outfit professionally.
He must ignore these below cost competitors, many of whom are in serious trouble.

Difficult times, but he must look after his 12m+ customers such as myself.

the 4.1 m customers on sct are their best customers now driving them away they had no need to give out that rise just send leters to the customers offering them a fixed deal , the board need to resign

if you say you are doing away with svt why put the cost up and drive customers away
surely if you are going to do away with svt for long standing customers you would just inform them to move to a fixed deal .
what they have announced is stupid and only a idiot would do that

Every time Centrica have to increase their prices because of the increased market price of gas, they get hammered by everyone.
No pricing power for energy.

The clowns that complain will happily pay a shedload of cash to watch a football match and subscribe to Sky sports. Think it is ok for a player to earn £500k p.w.
No sense of value.
