No news is... bad news for utilities :) At least its market wide, I see SSE are down a greater percentage today than centrica. Not a lot anyone cam do, am going to do something less boring instead (as 'Why Don't You' used to say)

If that's the case then they'll trade up on the day. "Better to travel than arrive" .

As I said the other day the sooner they get down the better. If for example they got to 145-150 before the statement I would say that bad news would be perceived as good news and good would be seen as good news. Then they could start a steady climb. Short term pain long term gain in my view. All this up 1 day down the next 8 is all rather tedious.Let's create some obvious value that no one can ignore. This is a slow and painful death.R.I.P.

When is said "what other shares would you buy" I was referring to the institutions and pension funds, not to you/us - individual shareholders :)

I would have thought that institutions and pension funds own the vast majority of shares. As long as cna is in the ftse100 then it's going to get a spread of investment. These guys invest for the long term. As an example, if you held centrica for last 10 years you would have received 140p in dividends. Any short term reductions I think would be taken on the chin with a pragmatic view and what other shares would you buy if you sold these? (markets being at record highs everywhere) WTFDIK

The problem with a divi cut is its the only thing holding it up at these lofty levels ;)

Joking apart am guessing not many on here would be interested if it did not have a tasty yield.

When Greg Clark said that there was £1.4bn of overcharging by the energy utilities he said that half that was due to inefficiencies, so utilities have to find £700m of cost savings. I wonder how many people are now out of work this christmas because of the government intervention?

Well he has to tread a fine line next week. Paint a rosy picture and the govt could twist the knife further, say the cap will hurt profits and the shares dive. I think the market is waiting for next week. No one is expecting it to be all good, but if crashes I will think it will reverse back up again very quickly.

I feel most utilities don't want to put their head above the parapet by saying they doing well. As long as cna say non uk customer supply only areas doing well hopefully that will be enough?

If it falls like a stone well that's what we are used to. It could obviously go either way. Rather than a divi cut they could axe jobs and other costs.

I think if the div was cut it would drop like a stone, let's hope for a good report for all of us, fingers and anything else crossed. I do think on this report we need more clarity where it's going. Most company's when there share price tanks put out some good news to give it a boost, CNA seem a bit reluctant
