today's announcement strengthens the hand of all Europe's premier clubs in future negotiations with UEFA.
Aren't Celtic ranked something like 54th???

"People should not view this as if there is going to be a European Super League like was previously suggested, because the court says nothing about this at all.
They have decided that the rules which were made to protect Fifa and Uefa's monopoly were unlawful."
I don't see how the first statement can be derived from what follows. If the monopoly cannot legally be protected, then the monopoly is vulnerable.

"Uefa and Fifa rules banning clubs joining breakaway competitions like the European Super League are unlawful, the European Court of Justice has ruled."
dunno what this actually means in practice.

I back the board here. If Rodgers is not getting the best out of the players that he has already got, why give him money to bring in more 'quality' if they don't end up playing like it?
The bloke has been moaning from day one while performances have been in decline.
Nevertheless, Abada, Maeda and Hatate coming back could mask that.
I hope that the board are researching replacements.

The centre-half situation worries me. All this chopping and changing. Lagerbielke being dismissed because of his age and inexperience. I think there might be a player in there.

celtic 0-2 hearts, a few minutes left to play rangers in the driving seat, old firm game - huge pressure
[dec 2017, hearts 4-0 celtic, these games come along to remind you to take nothing for granted, same with rangers upsets at aberdeen]
-- 'It's poor from Celtic, with no discernible rise in quality despite three half-time substitutions. Hearts are comfortable, and their keeper Zander Clark hasn't really been called into action much in the whole game, far less in this second half, with Celtic requiring two goals.'
'lifeless celtic'
'Kyogo cut a frustrating figure in attack'
-- 2nd half v killie, no shots on target |
Deservedly so and mainly due to Celtic's pitiful performances. It would be far better if we had to qualify for the CL anyway. We may win a few matches and if we fall at the final hurdle we have the europa league where we should be able to win some matches. The Europa league is our level but it shouldn't be. The CL should be our level just as it is for Porto and Feyenoord. It's down to bad bad management at the top of the club. |
'Scotland could lose automatic qualification to the Champions League group stages for the 2025-26 campaign due to a poor return in Uefa's coefficient rankings. (Sky Sports' |
In the 2nd half when we are 1-0 up Joe Hart made no attempt to slow the game down.
this is 'noddy' game management that either Celtic don't know about or just cannot stick to.

In the 2nd half when we are 1-0 up Joe Hart made no attempt to slow the game down. Jeez. It was doing my head in. In fact he did the opposite. As soon as he collected the ball the only thing on his mind was to start a new attack as quickly as possible. Do that when we are losing, not when we are winning against top quality opposition.
It's a monkey off our backs and the win was worth 2.7M euros. The next target is to win a CL game that is actually meaningful, not a dead rubber. |
Time to challenge the idea that Celtic are a worse team than they were last year. OK. That argument has some cred but:
. more UCL points secured this season . Luis Palma's goals and assists record stacks up well . Matt O'Riley better than he was last year, when at times he struggled to get in the team
also, let's bin this 'project player' stuff. Gustaf Lagerbielke scored the winning goal in a UCL match last night. He has arrived.
Celtic got a draw against Atletico Madrid and their losses against Atletico and Feyenoord came when they had men sent off. Beat the Pot 1 side, Feyenoord.
Matt O'Riley added a skilful assist, increasing his market value. Celtic picked up nice cash for winning their game. Great night for shareholders.
Worryingly, the manager afterwards was saying "we could have won all of our home games", it's trying to win games that is so frequently costing Celtic points!

newcastle on 5pts are the only 4th place team to 'beat' celtic *royal antwerp on -11 gd the only team to have worse than celtic [-10]
time to concentrate on the league, win the old firm
great cross from o'riley *antwerp beat barcelona this evening |
There is no club In Europe more useless at holding onto a lead but we've finished with 4 points lol. Same as man Utd. Almost feels respectable. |
I seriously doubt Rodgers will use this match as a chance to give fringe players a run out. He has to field his strongest side does he not? There's a lot of cash and coefficient points up for grabs even ignoring the fact this is a decent chance to end the barren non-winning run in the CL. |
Hopefully rest plenty players and drop others (Taylor, Phillips for starters)
Team of
Hart Ralston Nawrocki CCV Bernabei
Tomoki Bernardo O'Riley
Johnston Oh Forrest
Last chance for Bernardo, Oh, Johnston.
1-3 defeat. |
FC Copenhagen have qualified for the last 16 of Champions League at the expense of Man Utd and Galatasary. It just highlights what can be achieved by a club with a far smaller budget than us. Anyway tomorrow is the final match in a typically dire campaign. My prediction, and I hope I'm wrong is ;
Celtic 1 Feyenoord 2
If we lose again Rodgers is going to be under pressure. |
Rodgers wants a transfer budget for January does he? Who says he is to be trusted? Failed to replace Joe Hart in the summer. Jack Butland was available for free and is putting in match-winning performances at Rangers.
Surely a good manager can always think of a goalkeeper or two that could do a job?
Asagi (long CCP) |
it's gonna be tight going into the new year rangers tails are up
at about the 75-80min mark I read, Celtic no shots on target in the 2nd half |
Celtic XI: Hart, A Johnston, Phillips, Scales, Taylor, Tomoki, McGregor, O'Riley, M Johnston, Palma, Oh. ///Substitutes: Bain, Kyogo, Yang, Turnbull, Nawrocki, Bernabei, Bernardo, Forrest, Ralston.
-- its been a long run without any of kyogo, maeda, hatate in the starting line up, dec 2021 i think. |
you've put me straight MickinVest. I assumed that as he had failed to impress at Brighton or his loan to Stoke City, that he would have been a low fee signing for Rangers. As it is, he is just in the shop window at Ibrox to the benefit of Brighton.
Who may well receive an offer for him in January.
Asagi (long CCP) |
Rangers don't have any option to buy Sima Asagi and don't see them in any position to offer the £7m Brighton will be looking for him.
Good 2nd half performance after a dire 1st half yesterday and Taylor, Yang and to a lesser extent Hart poor again. |
