one thing is certain phil - they are either catching the proverbial falling knife or ... are calling the very bottom! stating the obvious i know. would be interesting to see what the share price action will be like over the next few weeks considering poor macro data coming out from China and the prevailing uncertain sentiment hovering over the markets.

Sure they can cut rates (and that may well work for a while) but what if the market perceives that as a desperate attempt to try resuscitate the economy?Markets certainly didn't like negative rates in Japan as people now realise they attack the very business models of banks (unless they legally ban physical cash so that banks could screw their depositors with negative rates). We may have entered a brave new world whereby central banks may be losing their grip. I very much hope I am wrong but when collapsing banks shares and gold skyrocketing does not bode too well Ah well, off for a swim now. Been a very long trading week!

It's been great indeed phil - as I said here a while earlier I am only short sp500 and long gold (zero exposure to individual names). Best start of thee year ever %wise. I truly think this bear market has a lot further to go as now the car is out of the back and it's not that easy for central bankers to pull off their magic

Yep, best day of the year for me , 3 shorts on the indices and short BRBY , really making up for the falls on the longs... portfolio is now almost +9% for the year. Markets look awful and Yellen has screwed the US.

Crazy as it sounds, these days are the ones where money can be made far quicker than normal. Being short the markets over the last few weeks has been very rewarding. On the other hand, we are seeing good quality companies like BRBY getting cheaper in the process. Hopefully, we will get a much better offering on this top company over the next few months or soGLA

George , BRBY is the only company I`ve shorted , but I also have two FTSE100 shorts and a FTSE250 short open. Berkeley Group BKG ( up market London housing ) is getting my interest at the moment , and I opened a small short on it yesterday..... russian and asian money which has been propping up the London market is surely drying up -I witnessed it first hand in the south of france last week. Prices dropping fast.

I've gone short here, seems to be near the top of the downward trend. The 100dma at 1254 should be resistance. The slow down in China, although old news looks set to continue.

Good hearing that phil - well done. I think only one of the following drivers gets the markets moving upwards again:- Fed reverses course on QE / rates or a combination of both- China somehow works out its pressures on Yuan (very hard to see how considering capital controls or a steep devaluation does the job but it will come with serious unintended consequences)- Oil firming up- Growth miraculously picks upSubjective I know but the chances of any of the above materialising in the short run are negligible, in my view. Consequently, shorting the market seems to be the path of least resistance. In addition, we still haven't seen the full extent of pain caused by low oil prices. Unless one sees oil companies going bankrupt (chase peake may be only the start), and banks recognising the extent of related losses, it would probably be wise to avoid being long. Who knows but this is my stab in the dark!

Portfolio now showing a healthy +6% for 2016 with my three index shorts and BRBY short ... even PLND was up today. Should have gone long RRS a few weeks ago , missed out with the gold exposure. Markets looking for recession ?

Just back from a few days in south of france. Property prices in Nice and Antibes falling pretty fast ... shops and restaurants closing. Something not right at all. This area used to be propped up by russian money so that could be a contributory factor.
