I think there is no doubt that it will be a Labour Government in next time. The Difference is that the Tories have been as Free spending as any Labour Government would have been. This is gonna leave very little for the New lot to play with money wise unless they start Taxing all and sundry,, which the Tories already have!
Right ol' Game ahead.

Thank you Nige. I thought that was the case but I wasn't sure.

If our government is not out to destroy the UK by its mad policies, I dread to think how bad things would get if they were really trying.

It’s a pile of shxt, it doesn’t matter who owns it, U.K. is fxcked anyway. Nobody in their right mind buys U.K. shares anymore, have a look at what happened to Woodford with his U.K.-centric funds and contrast with Fundsmith, pretty much all ex uk, one cut your capital in half the other has 4xd. U.K. was terminal anyway, brexit fiasco just speeded up the inevitable. Expect the government to be pleading with the IMF within 12 months. Who owns rubbish like bt really won’t matter much by then.

BT should always remain British owned and never sold off. It is far too critical to the UK

"The British government has cashed in its 1 pound special preference share in British Telecommunications Plc, a move which relinquishes the government’s legal right to meddle in certain of BT’s internal affairs. The special golden share was issued in 1984, and it required BT to gain consent from the government before changing its articles of association."

Probably He's comments about the competition signed his departure but the shares have fared very badly under his tenure so I'm sure they won't miss him.
I remember when these were a fiver without EE and the EE deal was deemed as a bargain buy at the time. Now the whole Company is only valued for what they paid for EE!!

H1000,
Do you think maybe something significant is about to happen and those pulling the strings want Jansen out?
Maybe we'll get clarity someday soon.

Not an honorable man as in a Pj live (an internal BT Q&A) a couple of days ago he was asked regarding the leaving rumours and he denied he was even considering it! The company has had awful CEOs over many years, the next one is likely to be more of the same.

You only have to look at the water companies to see what happens when foreigners are allowed to take over UK strategic assets. They fill up the company with debt to get their original stake back and then downgrade the service while they pay themselves huge dividends.

I just hope the government has at long last learnt the lesson. I doubt it though.

"The former state monopoly has intensified work with advisers from Robey Warshaw and Goldman Sachs on its defence in recent months amid strengthening rumours that its German counterpart, a 12pc shareholder in BT, was preparing an approach"

Why would they start work on a defence before even knowing how much a bid would be ? If DT offered, say, £2 the only correct response from the BT board would be "yes please". No 'defence' necessary !!

IMO there was nothing new in the Telegraph article. The only thing that I would agree with the article is that it highlighted the time limit. If Labour get in power the chances of a takeover would be virtually next to zero. Would the present government stop a takeover on the grounds of security? Probably. What I would say is that Drahi BT's largest shareholder who owns 24.5%. I don't think that he's invested for the dividend.
