What it needs is capitulation on a bad day, very high volume, clear the weak holders out, probably treble volume. I think if BT don't get there act together and good news is not forthcoming then I see 200p tested by the bears.

As I suggested yesterday, even the reception to the pension issue being resolved could be somewhat lukewarm - the movement this morning suggests that. BT is so out of favour that even when it gets something right (not very often), investors don't have their heads turned.

Openreach to hire thousands of trainees

BBC Radio 5 live
BT Openreach, the provider of broadband infrastrucure in the UK, plans to recruit 3,500 trainee engineers to help install its high-speed broadband service.

Some of those engineers will also help provide a better service, says Kim Mears, managing director for Infrastructure Delivery. She says services are already improving.

"If I look at missed appointments [by engineers], that has been taken down significantly over the last year," she says.

The number of missed appointments is "tiny" says Ms Mears.

Do not have anything to do with BT. I signed for broadband and phone in the middle of February, paying £200 pounds in advance for the line rental. 3 days later after looking at some of these reviews I cancelled the deal. The money was repaid and I thought the account was closed. It was only when I received an email to give me a delivery date for my equipment that I became suspicious. I called and they agreed to close the account and said they couldn't stop the equipment arriving and would send a return kit to me to return the equipment.
Last week March 7th my wife told me that we had had £233 taken out of the account for the rental and 1st month payment. Obviously I called immediately to get it back and wanted to know why it had been taken out. They couldn't explain why this had happened but promised to have the money back to me by yesterday 13/3 and that they would cancel the direct debit. The money did not arrive so I called today to be told that the money had been put in my account as a credit against future transactions. You can imagine my reaction to this! I demanded the immediate return of my money to be told that they could only send out a cheque within the next 7 working days because the direct debit had been cancelled(which century are they living in?) As offered to provide details of my account and sort code but the guy was adamant that they could only send a cheque. I will have effectively been out of pocket for 4 weeks by the time the cheque arrives and is cleared into my account(if indeed it is sent!) These guys are a bunch of criminals do not do business with them for you own sakes

When is the pension revaluation due to be reported? Will it be held back until the results?

DMF, I'm not sure there will be some clear capitulation moment here,
it's more like death by a thousand cuts.

Not handsome enough, and I always button up my shirt.
If GP can survive his next handsome attack he could do well.

There is plenty of scope for belt tightening in a company the size of BT.
Synergies with EE for example, cap ex, more financial discipline.
Patterson will be under pressure to drive this programme.

A turnover of £25bn is the cash that passes through their hands.
That means over £21bn gets spent.
Save just 5% of that and the bottom line improves by £1b.
now we are talking turkey.

Anyone hoping for a nice surprise is going to be disappointed. Nothing has changed and the potential for unknown positive news is negligible. The pension issue being resolved is the only thing on the horizon that could have a notably positive impact - but I believe even that will be somewhat muted.

Careful - could you please explain the term 'rocketed' and how much you were paying with EE (Orange) and are now paying with EE (BT)?

financial year end in 2 weeks time.
BT are panting and wheezing up to the finishing line.
Lets up hope that when the results come out in May we get a good surprise.

Perversely, one hopeful sign is my broadband monthly bill.
I have been with EE for years. (was orange)
No complaints.
... but since BT took them over my monthly bill has rocketed.
