04/10/2018 09:04 | BATs is not alone in having to compete with ten year US treasury yields that are now 3.2%.The dividend proxy equities are under pressure and this is unlikely to change anytime soon. | steeplejack
04/10/2018 08:48 | If the management can raise the dividend substantially, it will bring a lot of confidence into the stock. Like I said, it's the yield below 5% BATS need to avoid. | this_time_its_different
04/10/2018 08:40 | TTID thanks for the info. I had a small holding in BATS only 340 shares but sold first week in August my mrs also holds only 300 so I let hers run so wee bit under water with her holding average @ £39.43 so got a while to wait on that and just collect the divi. 04/10/2018 08:37 | Yes bells I agree, but defensive stock holders are not used to these kind of drops, that just brings on panic selling and stop losses being hit. People in tech stocks won't panic sell if Square drops 5%, since it is normal, no so with BATS. I still believe in BATS since it is the only company (bar Apple) which sells an addictive product. | this_time_its_different
04/10/2018 08:35 | Look at the long term chart - tearful drops are nothing new in fact they being new players into the stock where investors believe in new profits to be made. Keep clam. It will be climbing up in the long term. | 18bells
04/10/2018 08:35 | US bond yields are still low, and rate rises are going to slow down now. BATS can grow their dividend, which a US bond can't. The stock needs to yield 5-6% to keep the vultures away. Below 5% and you will see selling. | this_time_its_different
04/10/2018 08:31 | Ken, US bond yields. | essentialinvestor
04/10/2018 08:31 | it also doesn't help the "live" price by advfn is showing the wrong percentage drop. The stock is down around 3% right now, NOT 5%, which advfn shows. | this_time_its_different
04/10/2018 08:29 | the management is also to blame, being very quiet as shareholder capital gets destroyed. If you bought 1 year ago, you basically sat through the 2008 version of tobacco. The worst thing you can do is panic sell now, BATS is highly oversold, EM markets still smoke like chimneys, their product is addictive and smoking is still cool (and safer with vape). | this_time_its_different
04/10/2018 08:26 | general fear for tobacco stocks, the problem is it's not found a bottom and keeps creating new lows. On top of panic selling and stop losses being hit, it's dropping like a lead balloon with no reason. It's a screaming buy given the potential of vape and the cannabis industry. Holders of BATS are not used their capital being destroyed as a defensive play. I say hold tight and top up if you can. The divi is very good value right now, as US rate rises are going to slow down now. | this_time_its_different
04/10/2018 08:22 | ting slautered today any one know why as XD should have only taken 48.8p I was exspecting it to run to a drop of around 65p but wee now down 157p | ken tennis

02/10/2018 08:53 | ttid, BATS was massively OUTperforming the FTSE 100 up until the start of the year. Up 50% over 5 years compared to the index up about 15%. Now over 5 years they are pretty much even. And you are wrong to say that the BATS crash occurred during a bull market. The BATS peak was in May last year, since when the FTSE has been pretty flat. | stepone68

01/10/2018 19:25 | scobak the point is defensive stocks are meant to go up slowly in a bull market and remain flat in a bear market, this stock has crashed in a bull market. | this_time_its_different
01/10/2018 18:29 | It goes back up as a defensive? | scobak
01/10/2018 16:12 | Most depressing stock on the FTSE 100, goes from £55 to £35 in a BULL MARKET, what the hell would happen in a bear market. | this_time_its_different
