I like the prospects for this share at these levels if Trump (8-15 on in betting presently) is elected but does anyone else have ideas about how the rest of the FTSE 100 index and shares are likely to react. Are we going to see dollar weakness if Trump is elected thus helping dollar earnings for those with results in GBp? Any ideas or historical references for when Trump was elected in 2016 would be helpful.....must confess i can't remember the Trump presidency except for a booming US stock market.I can't remember what the FTSE did post election that year.Obviously not much as the FTSE index hasn't done much for years now as an index as a whole. |
Just being in the FTSE and pound denominated is enough to have impact from local UK chaos |
I thought all BATS business was outside the UK so the budget wont affect BATS. Am I wrong about that? |
I thought I read, I may be wrong, tobacco duty brings in roughly 12 billion pounds, costs NHS 2.6 billion, so duty will rise, easy target. Vapes how much would that bring in for Reeves. |
#Topazfrenzy, not so much a controlled decline business anymore like stick sales, as PM recently reported, vaping is a growth sector, fact is any Gov needs the tax revenues they could not function without them, the NZ smoking ban was overturned for this reason..
Vaping regulation and duties are coming, but that in itself controls what will be illegal imports, and opens up the market for regulated taxable products for sale..
Payday on Friday and see how far this runs up to the next XD before Xmas.. :o) |
Vapes have definitely reversed upwards the amount of new nicotine takers, expect millions of future punters, good or bad it will make tobacco companies big money for years to come ..
The nicotine industry was in decline and now it's rising substantially |
She's definitely going to tax vapes. The good thing is that they will rely on the duty for their coffers so will never be able to ban them lol |
Answer to 10057. People voted for this Labour lot. Idiots or not? |
A Trump win next week should give a boost for BATS. |
The nanny state will think of something else, no drinking, no vapes, no tobacco, no gambling , ban fast food advertising, gov must think public idiots. |
Downing Street reportedly dropping outdoor smoking ban proposal |

I hope that does not happen, but got feeling it might. |
Assuming they don’t die inbetween, which many will. |
Topaz, that scenario assumes the tories would reverse the tax increase. Given their tax increases over the last few years I am not sure that that is a likely scenario. |
The other scenario is that people hold their shares until the next Tory government ... so less selling to line Rachel Thieves' pockets after the CGT increase kicks in? |
A budget for growth............ lets start by making the UK relative to other countries , uninvestable. |
