I am sitting on this until we have FY results in FEB24. Based on forward divi policy and outlook I may add. I am convinced it will maintain quality dividend for many years to come into my tax free ISA .. GLA |
The CEO surely as left fund managers fuming. Shareholders own the company he just runs it, if no dividend hike in Feb, he won't be flavour of the month. At least Spring Mountain Capital increased stake to 10% their analysts must have run the slide rule over Bats and liked it. |
Often the dogs of one year become the darlings of the next. Hopefully this will follow that trend. You still hold some IGG, tuftymatt? I remember we had some discussions on that chat board a year or so ago I think it was. Now looking like it could become a strong play again in 2024, once the new CEO joins (and subject to no nasty, clear the decks kitchen-sinking of course). Point being, that one was a real pain for most of 2023. Like BATS. Anyway, cancelled my buy order and just bought that final tranche a little higher than the target price. Going to sit back now, collect the near 10% dividend and see what 2024 brings. GLA. |
yufty: I count my blessings as, in March 2023 I liquidated all my pension funds at S.Life and moved (in cash) to an Int. Inv. SIPP.
This caused me to delay re-investing and I'm still 55% in cash. I'm not greedy, I'd like the £200k to grow by about £8k each year (4% is hardly stunning) as that's the amount I generally draw-down in March.
The problem will come when the int. rates actually start to fall as that WILL drive equities upwards coupled with the pending gen. election - goodness knows which direction that will move equities.
So, have I missed the bottom in BATS, DGE, LGEN, PHNX? |
My way of thinking too MCunliffe1
I will continue to average down here, once the dust settles in 2024, and overtime do ok with BATS.
2023 has been a rough one here that's for sure but that's the nature of the game we play.
Good luck all 👍🏻 |
I suspect the reason ITC has grown to be larger than BATS is down, mainly, to the increase in population in India. It really IS a growing market in all forms of the phrase.
BATS of course lost some capitalisation in respect of the sudden drop of about 8% in the share price on 6th Dec.
But, even though my own holding is down 9.65% overall (at the moment) I'm happy that 4 x div's a year will, over the next 10 years serve me very well. |
Yes I saw they increased their holding to 10%, encouraging surely their analysts have run the slide rule over the figures going forward, as long as the dividend paid for 2024 or even increased in Feb perhaps a a bounce. Buybacks not bothered about. Never thought ITC would be worth more than Bats.At least Bats decent stake in ITC. |
I have put a buy order in for 2240. If it hits, that will be me fully loaded here. Whether they raise, or simply keep, the dividend at the current level, that will do me. Then a waiting game to hopefully see the BOD deliver on their plans in the coming 12 months. If all goes well, IMO decent capital gains will follow from the current share price level too. Certainly hope so anyway! GLA. |
Interesting debate regarding buybacks.
I'm personally not a fan, would prefer a special dividend or a dividend raise as that DOES actually benefit me, whereas a buyback does not.
If I have a 1000 shares in BAT, if the company buybacks 2% of the float, mathematically my 1000 shares now represent a greater proportion of the company BUT:
I still have only 1000 shares earnings the same dividend as before.
So Cashflow wise I do not benefit from a buyback at all (unless they raise the divi per share too, which often they do not)
Contrast that to a divi raise or a special dividend instead of a buyback - I benefit directly and immediately from the next payment date.
So I've always preferred Divi raise/specials over buybacks. In fact I'd prefer they paid off DEBT before engaging in buybacks myself. |
Spring Mountain increased its holding on 7th December from 9% to 10% so they must see it as a sound investment |
Collective madness brings opportunities
This cash cow is now on a PE of only 5.9 lol |
May be I should try 2200p as entry b4 exd. |
Shall I buy now or waited for exd drop. Any resistance level which is best entry point to average down? Anyone? |
Fund managers must be fuming at the CEO doing this. Shareholders own the company not directors. If he does not increase the dividend February he should go. It's a cash cow. |
Another knowledgeable supporter of BB's. Topaz hopes Altria will sell it's 10% stake in A-B, gift the money to BATS for debt repayment and whatever is left used as a BB fund.
Stunning. ;-) |
Sorry I made a mistake it is Altria that owns a 10% stake! LOL |
Yes Una it's true
We should dispose of our A-B stake and pay down debt and start some hefty buybacks |
BAT ad in the FT today |
Topaz...are you sure bout that? First I've heard. |
We also own 10% of Annheuser-Busch |
Correct monty. About £500m+ divi from ITC this year. |
At least BATs have a good stake in this growing company ITC with a nice dividend being paid by ITC. |
ITC India third largest tobacco Co. 67 billion . Bigger than BAT. |
I doubt they can take BATs over. |
