i agree alanrex. did retailers receive compensation when the weather was so bad no one could get to the shops? will energy companies receive compensation if we have a warm winter? it is not the governments responsibility. the banks i understand, it had to be done otherwise everything would have suffered terribly.

i really dont want compensation from the taxpayers for this.
The banks i understood given the knock on effects.
I suspect the UK govt will provide nothing, but the EU might although the pot is limited I understand. I think this belief of a bailout has held up the share price. I get the impression from Bulletin boards that there are many who believe strongly that there should be no bailout though. will be interesting

The other effects are that prices will go up for flights but on the downside, many will be hesitant to book flights for the next 4 weeks if they fear longer effects of cancellation and being stranded

all imo dyor

the government are dithering to weak bay
balance sheet if bay lose £20m a day,
they will lose £1.4bn in 70 days, very
worrying the wanted labour nationalisation
story continues, labour equals nationalisation,
conservative equals privatisation, support
for shareholders.
I do not hold and am not a short seller, just
worried about the nationalisation issue for
the st mkt and country.

From the BBC...

Ryanair will not operate any flights between Ireland and the UK until at least Friday. Airline boss Michael O'Leary said he hoped the move would free up aircraft to begin flying stranded passengers in and out of mainland Europe on Thursday. All of Ryanair's northern Europe services are cancelled until 1300 on Thursday.

They will be moved to correct location when possible, ie Heathrow, without passengers. Safety not affected.

If heathrow is still not open when they are due here tomorrow morning, I would iumagine that they'll either be diverted to Scotland or Madrid.

Following the latest information from NATS (National Air Traffic Service) about the path of the volcanic ash affecting UK airspace, we regret we have:

cancelled all shorthaul flights on Tuesday 20 April
cancelled all longhaul flights, departing from the UK, Tuesday 20 April
cancelled longhaul flights, arriving into the UK, before 12:00 UK local time Wednesday 21 April

i think the hope of compensation is holding this up. if brown tells willie to shove it, it will drop like a 747 with ash filled engines.
