Just saw that steveglobal4 - this is really becoming an issue as the cloud reaches the East Coast USA this evening - BA's most lucrative market is the LHR/JFK route.....

The real elephant in the room is a hung parliament. Apart from exporters who'll benefit from a falling pound there could be a very negative reaction from the markets.

Earlier on Sunday, a UK Met Office plane went through the cloud and encountered dangerous levels of ash, showing that the issue is not whether the cloud is real and dangerous but whether its extent can be accurately mapped, BBC business editor Robert Peston writes.
One possible solution is to put observation planes in the sky, to give a more detailed picture of the location of ash concentrations, and the UK government is therefore trying to obtain more observation planes, from the military in particular, he adds.
Our business editor understands that BA fears it may not be allowed to fly normal services until Thursday at the earliest.

at VERY low level - seems to be how it's going, tiny short hop and then give the green light

i have no idea whether it's safe to fly or not at the moment - it just doesn't look like those test flights are in any way representative of normal operations

on the other hand those Finnish jets were definitely damaged!

if thats true, thats not good for BAY or other airlines. TUI i think provided a breakdown of the cost, i hope BAY provide one soon.

First flight back, providing the dust moves, from Singapore to UK on Qantas is Sunday according to my mate stuck out there with 2500 others. Grimsville if its true!
