Vast have just issued an RNS re: the possible rights to part of the Marange diamond fields.
Very exciting for Vast, which originally discovered the Marange fields, and which once had a market cap of 500m quid based on that discovery - before the fields were then taken away by Mugabe after a quite farcical legal process.
I'm not quite sure how BOD fit in here, but obviously they already have a JV with Vast.

3 MAY 2018NEWSBotswana Diamonds signs MoU with Vast for joint project in Zimbabwe     Botswana Diamonds (BOD) has entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with mining and resource development company Vast Resources to form an alliance for the joint exploration of diamonds in Zimbabwe. In addition to the collaborative exploration initiative, the MoU will also see the parties exchange information obtained from past exploration on prospective areas in Zimbabwe. The collaboration is expected to leverage BOD's expertise relating to diamond exploration, development and mining in the country."We believe the time has now come for us to make use of our historic diamond knowledge with a view to bringing value for all stakeholders."Vast previously acquired a database relating to diamonds in Zimbabwe in 2008, which the company used to conduct exploration works until 2010.BOD has also independently acquired a Zimbabwe diamonds database.Botswana Diamonds chairman John Teeling said:  "Both Botswana Diamonds and Vast Resources have extensive experience in, and knowledge of, the country."It is opening for business and both BOD and Vast are keen to make the most of this opportunity."BOD and Vast are expected to form a special-purpose, jointly owned company in order to carry out the planned exploitation programme.Vast Resources chief executive Andrew Prelea said: "As a result of the new government's desire to open up business in Zimbabwe, we believe the time has now come for us to make use of our historic diamond knowledge with a view to bringing value for all stakeholders in developing Zimbabwe's diamond resources."Vast is the owner of the Manaila polymetallic mine in Romania, which is currently preparing for expansion via the development of an additional open-pit operation and new metallurgical complex at the Carlibaba Extension Area. The company also holds an 80% interest in the Baita Plai polymetallic mine in Romania, as well as a 25% interest in the Pickstone-Peerless gold mine in Zimbabwe.

"Modern geophysics indicated a 0.7-hectare pipe at Ontevreden. Our drilling confirmed a smaller pipe, which is not currently commercial."Research by the University of Johannesburg showed that the site's rock displayed characteristics typically present in high-grade kimberlite pipes, the company said in October. However, though further drilling of the resource confirmed it contained kimberlite, it was not enough to make the project viable for full-scale operation. The miner plans to focus on two other South African projects. Botswana Diamonds has been awarded a prospecting license for the Mooikloof asset, adjacent to the Oaks mine - which De Beers owned, and close to another De Beers mine -Venetia. Mooikloof was last prospected in 1986, yet Botswana Diamond said it was underestimated at the time and is still commercially viable. The miner has also received its technical evaluation of the Thorny River project. The results show the deposit holds between 1.2 million and 2 million tons of kimberlite, estimated to be worth between $120 and $220 per carat. "Significant progress has been made on our joint-venture projects in South Africa," Teeling said. "We are pleased to finally be awarded the Mooikloof concession.... The pipe is historically estimated at 2.5 hectares in size, and contains diamonds." The company will reassess the pipe using recently developed exploration techniques, he explained. "Analysis shows that a mine on the Thorny River deposit could be profitable, assuming positive results from additional exploration," Teeling added.

The difference between a licence and a permitLICENCEA licence is an authorisation granted to an applicant (on a prescribed form), allowing him to carry on a business on a continuous (subject to periodic renewal) or permanent basis and usually but notnecessarily provides for the performance of more than one activity. Licences are valid until they lapse or are suspended or cancelled. Licences are only transferable by prior approval. PERMITIs permission granted to an applicant (on a prescribed form) to conduct an occasional, specific activity for a fixed period of time, or in some cases to conduct a once-off or non-recurring activity, or in rarecases to cover special circumstances. Permits expire, whereupon a new permit would have to beapplied for. Permits are not transferable.

From the 2017 Final accounts

"We are delighted that James Campbell joined us as Managing Director in December 2016. He brings knowledge, experience, contacts and energy to the Company."

"In joining BOD he brought with him the Vutomi projects"

"In February 2017, BOD entered into an Option and Earn In Agreement with Vutomi Mining Pty Ltd, a private diamond exploration and development firm in South Africa."

"Botswana Diamonds has agreed to pay Vutomi a total of £942,000 in cash, of which £581,000 will be used to fund exploration activities. In addition, the Company will issue 100 million ordinary shares of 0.25p each (“Ordinary Shares”) to Vutomi shareholders."

"The Agreement will be executed in three Phases after which the Company will own 72% of Vutomi. The remaining 28% will continue to be held by Vutomi's Black Economic Empowerment (‘BEE’) partners. At any point the Agreement will lapse it the Company does not exercise its option regarding a specific Phase."

So what are the "specific phases"
What happens when some of the rights are in dispute ?
Could that lead to a lapse in the agreement ?

From the Risks section

"Risk
Nature of risk and mitigation
Licence obligations
Operations must be carried out in accordance with the terms of each licence agreed with the relevant
ministry for natural resources in the host country. Typically, the law provides that operations may be
suspended, amended or terminated if a contractor fails to comply with its obligations under such
licences or fails to make timely payments of relevant levies and taxes"

We know the BEE is a share holder in Vutomi - who else is /was ?

It insinuates "brought with him the Vutomi projects" that he could have been a shareholder - does it say in the accounts - I have not found it either way ?
