I have heard something similar - 340p to be precise.
Though there is also talk of another bidder coming out and, who knows, 400p or so!
I bought in to this originally as a t/o possibility though I could never work out who would buy them. For some reason I forgot to look outside the UK and I focussed on retail buyers.
Unilever or P&G may now step in - similar potential synergies to L'Oreal and all big fmcg multinationals are interested in acquiring retail competence.

L'Oreal eyes £600m Body Shop takeover
By Miles Costello

Shares in the Body Shop soared after L'Oreal, the world's largest cosmetics company, said it was considering launching an all-cash takeover bid that would most likely value the high street beauty products retailer at more than £600 million.

Body Shop shares, which jumped yesterday amid speculation that an unnamed suitor was preparing an offer, leaped nearly 12 per cent this morning after L'Oreal confirmed its interest, to take the value of the retailer past £575 million.

The market makers have had some good fun with this one over the year as shareholders have been reluctant to part with them.

L'OREAL

23 February 2006

RESPONSE TO RECENT PRESS SPECULATION

L'Oreal notes the recent movement in Body Shop International Plc's ("Body Shop")
share price. L'Oreal's management is continually evaluating a wide range of
strategic alternatives that may add value to its shareholders including a
possible offer for Body Shop. Any offer, if made, is likely to be solely in cash.
However, no decision has been made regarding any offer, L'Oreal's Board has not
been consulted and no approach has been made to Body Shop.

Target Price:
Some judicious P&F charts suggest two possible targets:
short-term 300p
But also a possible 400p+

This share has been ignored by the BBs for too long - so who knows?
