With Europe in the doldrums, China slowing causing Oz to ease up and now Russia on the point of collapse, where is the demand for commodities going to come from? Oil and copper at 5 year lows, wheat/sugar/gold/iron/coal not far behind. This is not the time for punitive taxes, we are in global deflation and I suspect we will need another dose of QE next year to avert another global collapse, IMO.

Barrick Suspends Lumwana As Zambia's Royalty Hikes Deemed Excessive

Thursday December 18, 2014 8:30 AM

Barrick Gold Corp. (NYSE:ABX)(TSX:ABX) will suspend its Lumwana copper mine, located in Zambia, as the government has passed legislation that will see the country’s royalties rise from 6% to 20%. Barrick notes that while the corporate tax in the country was removed, a 20% gross royalty on revenue will be introduced Jan. 1, 2015. "The introduction of this royalty has left us with no choice but to initiate the process of suspending operations at Lumwana. Despite the progress we have made to reduce costs and improve efficiency at the mine, the economics of an operation such as Lumwana cannot support a 20 percent gross royalty, particularly in the current copper price environment," says Kelvin Dushnisky, co-president of Barrick. "We sincerely regret the impact this will have on our people, as well as the communities and the businesses that depend on Lumwana, and we remain hopeful that the government will consider an alternative solution that will allow the mine to continue operating," says Jim Gowans, co-president of Barrick. The company says they have placed the mine on care and maintenance with major work reductions to begin in March and eventually to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2015. The company also notes they expect an impairment charge related to the mine in the fourth quarter; it has a carrying value of roughly $1 billion. “In the first nine months of 2014, Lumwana produced 138 million pounds of copper at C3 fully allocated costs of $2.98 per pound,” the company says. “The mine had 6.6 billion pounds of copper in reserves as of Dec. 31, 2013.”

Folks of the ADVFN BMR Discussion Thread..... I Thought I'd post here to drum up more interest in BMR Watch - The BMR Shareholders Alliance : hxxps://bmrwatch.shutterfly.com

If you hold BMR shares, you should strongly consider pooling them into the alliance. The pool of shares has just exceeded the 10% of shares in circulation threshold.

To put that into perspective, the site has not even been up a month yet.....

I agree with that QS, I hope that this latest group will prove to influence for the benefit of all. I have thrown my lot in to support and hopefully we can muster enough holders and holdings to create a presence that cannot be ignored. Your pressence within this group would be appreciated as I'm sure you can add a great deal of value to the cause.

Where R U Stav?

I'll leave you to speculate.

You just need honest detail. So long as you have little or no influence as you've seen they give you didly. I'm not saying rns I'm saying proper Q&A with the BOD who work for the shareholders LOLsss

Far from mocking, I'm just saying now more than ever is the time to unite and take collective action. Your rose tints still blind you as they have for many a year.

No its ignorance thinking everything in the garden is rosy and posting as if it is.

A gent you may be but you are too trusting and look where it has got you LOLsss

Go for it QS, your the kind of man to put the boot in when the other is down. We shall see what transpires over the coming weeks. We have squeaky bum time for all those related to BMR. If you have information to impart please do so. Its ignorance that obviously drives your conjecture that I am associated. I would have thought the inside track was yours from your drawling musings that spill across this board. Be a Gentleman Sir and retain some decorum during this festive season, I and others obviously have a great deal at stake and yes its our choice and possibly our loss. I have no reason to suspect that you gain some perverse self esteem from your mocking words, do behave, you are better than that.

presumably has to remain suspended as it cannot produce its results within the time limit required by AIM?

Does anyone know why BMR are still allowed to remain suspended considering the board are now aware of what the issues are as they say by their own admission it is nearing completion and they will be readying accounts for early next year?

I don't get how the market can say 'take as long as you like' what's special about BMR?

The nonchalant bulls are actually pretty impressive in their bb expressed personas, maybe they try to take heart from that old go to saying MA always said 'why are you worried?'

The Nomads and everyone else putting their names to previous RNS should be very concerned... If pi's do get screwed over then I hope there is a big enquiry into everything... Who were the warrant holders. Who we paid money for assets in Ndola/Chingola etc. Who owns dorset solutions etc etc...

Was MA being played by MV and DH?

I see balls the paid pr man is trying to drive the lemmings with him over the cliff.

Contrast this, great progress but we cannot tell you didly about how it affects the accounts so no AGM.

Meanwhile salaries fees etc get suckered from the minimal cash pot which will last a month or so.

Then there's the main man's companies and littered past of delistings and administrations.

But you lot sit back and get shafted. After all you've done it for 11 years now with balls ramping away for the same duration LOLsss

It's about to be whipped from under your snouts.

What is AB et al to gain from busting a gut on behalf of u lot or are there other benefits he might gain via his own capital company and other partnering deals when the candle finally gets snuffled.

You'll all be cursing and shouting when it's just too little too late LOLsss

That rns is not even clever at saying absolutely nothing.

Worryingly there's nothing about financing partners or real progress on processing.

Would you trust this man, the previous man, the incompetence that got you here?

Unless you club together force an audience it's down the pan and into someone else's pocket LOLsss
