There have been continued challenges. The construction sector has suffered material and labour supply constraints. Billington are better able to face those challenge than their competitors.

The company is facing a lot of difficulties at present and will struggle to make progress.

That £1.1m could have been a 10p dividend to us shareholders. I expect the share price will fall but whether we can buy at a cheaper price I'm not sure.

Very conservatively written. A different company could have taken identical circumstances and been extremely gung-ho.

British Steel increases steel prices today by £250/tonne.Don't think I've ever seen such a huge increase in one go. For context theu also raised prices in Dec, but it was only up £30/tonne.

Hmm rising iron ore prices and the surge in electricity costs is not going to be a good combo for the price of steel.

Yes it is very annoying that new investors are buying these shares that we paid up to £4 for. Rufus seem to have sold 20,000 shares to satisy demand.

That explains this mornings rise...Has anyone not told Simon Thompson that steel production is energy intensive. And electricity contracts that British Steel have are hedged... But probably only for a year ahead... Which means this is the year they start to incur higher electricity costs and therefore will be passing it on to the likes of Billington in higher steel prices :)

Included in Simon Thompson's Bargain Shares list for this year, concluding with "the share price looks poised for strong recovery to last September’s 300p highs, and perhaps beyond. Buy."

Personally, I think you could add a quid to that given time.

Compare and contrast Billington to Severfield:
Intangibles as % NA: 0% : 50%
T/O / Mkt Cap : 2.7: 1.7
NA / Mkt Cap: 100% : 90%
Can’t understand huge increase in trade volume today unless there is a big seller?
Anyone know what conditions are like in the business?
I find it strange that holiday companies are so highly rated when not profitable and still investors introducing more capital compared with construction (Steel) no new capital and we will always need national firms like Billington?

This is a good time to buy. Shares at long term low. There is plenty of work and company will recover.

I'm looking to get back in to BILN but, judging by the lack of activity in their Bristol depot of late, think it's still a trifle too early; will continue to watch and wait.

The usual outlook caveat on inflation. For anyone looking to invest, do look at the British Steel news today. Electricity prices are going to hit steel prices hard, as well as steel production capacity. Can see govt ask steel plants to shut down during winter to protect domestic supplies and prevent blackouts. As we all know, Billington sources it's steel from....

There has been a big increase in work in progress and earnings despite current difficult circumstances. Looking good for the medium term.

Maybe because it's 'summer holiday time' but the for the past two weeks when I've driven past the Bristol depot, loaded HGV trailers on the Bristol forecourt have been almost non existent. Whatever the reason, it's unsettled me so I'm out for the time being.
