I am quite certain you could do better than £222! Advance singles are much cheaper than day returns, which are almost out-of-date now. It is a bit like budget airlines, book a bit ahead and there are some really good deals. We have some Australian friends visiting who had a price quoted upwards of £250 for a fare from the Midlands to Glasgow. In fact you can easily do it for as low as £30, with many options around the £60 mark. UK rail fares are about the lowest in Europe, provided you don't just walk up on the day.

Once the date of the AGM had been announced, I checked out the possibility of using the train: a day return (to tie-in with the AGM time) ... £222.00; if I could have driven my car ... £55.00 (approx)!

I went a couple of years ago. It is easy to get to by train as Wombwell has a station. I changed at Sheffield.

AGM being held today; a pity it's so far north as I'd willingly attend but a round-trip of 370 miles (or 7 hours driving) is beyond this old boy's capability these days ..... 15 years ago I used to drive 400 miles for an AGM in Yorkshire each year.

Attendance is usually 'thin on the ground' to say the least (just two last year I recall) so perhaps a change of venue might increase interest and be worth considering. The company doesn't normally issue an AGM statement either unfortunately and, continuing to pay just the one divi a year instead of the usual two, I know they can't undertand why there are so few individuals registered as shareholders. I do.

The same old story, a hefty 11,253 shares 'buy' went through at 08.38 but not reported until late this afternoon. No doubt the argument put forward by the Market Manipulators would be as always 'We didn't want to unsettle the market' ..... lol

British Steel is on the verge of administration according to the media, being one pf BILN's many suppliers, one wonders whether the company has contingency plans in place should the unthinkable happen? Certainly hasn't had any detrimental effect on BILN's share price so far.

Good to see the share price breaking out, one may argue it took way too long. But is this a real breakout or a 'fakeout'..?I've bought 2.5k shares just now, not showing yet

Why do "we need an RNS to clarify"? It is just the market recognising the potential of the company after the latest results. Even at the current price the p/e is only 9 with a well-covered dividend yield of over 4%. Ideal for AIM portfolios designed to mitigate IHT. If you look at the five-year earnings chart a p/e of double that would be more appropriate.

The close above £3 could be significant, a close above 315 even more so for those who follow charts.

These large 300p trades (two more today) are confusing, we need a RNS to clarify.

Just announced, Tarom Foundation have sold 25k - 15k @ 300p on 29th + 10k @ 300p on 30th - of their large holding; interestingly, the share price didn't flinch:

Thanks for the link, astonedt. In particular, I like his answer to Q4:

[ Q4: How has 2019 started for Billington Holdings and do you remain confident for the year ahead?

A4: Yes, 2019 has started with an unprecedented order book for the group which sees production spanning deep into 2019 and some projects beyond in Q1 and Q2 of 2020.

Enquiries and opportunities received into the company remain at a level that allows us to be optimistic about forward workloads towards the conclusion of the year and, as I say, looking forward to 2020.

The company has an increasing reputation for its ability to deliver construction solutions for the most prestigious and demanding of projects for its partner clients. ]

I hadn't spotted this yesterday. Good to see that a non-exec director has as much confidence in the company's prospects as some of us do:

Agreed

"The level of secured work Billington takes forward into 2019 is unprecedented and ensures that we can look to the future with optimism. Undoubtedly 2019 will present its challenges, however, we are confident it will be another successful and progressive year for the Group."

"Billington continues to monitor both the challenges and opportunities which may result from the UK's exit from the European Union. To date we have seen no discernible impact on trading or enquiry levels."

A good set of results; good progress on all fronts, no drama, just a well run company.

Even the pension is doing well.

Dave is obviously a fast bowler judging by his post - three minutes before the e-mail arrived in my inbox!

It is just a solid well run company with the added advantage that the thread is free from the chattering classes.

Thanks for the link, daveb, I hope the article turns out to be near-the-mark in respect of next week's results announcement. Living just down the road from the Bristol Structure Steel depot which I tend to pass at least twice a week, I can confirm that, if their forecourt is an indication of business going through, they are doing very well so far.
