Yep agreed but I had thought this was done deal at 410 but I guess not, the offer has been out there for a long time and it seems no one else has come to the party. Personally I think they're getting it on the cheap. I just need to decide now whether to hang on hope of for more or take mkt price now an pick up a few hundred more than if it closes at 410 in a few months

when the price trades abv the offer price then its usually because the mkt thinks either theres another chance of a bid coming or the management wants a higher price. since the board has recommended the offer it can only be the former. i think the offer is too low. even if they are on the hook for a 150mn plus to the hmrc its a business that generates reliable income. it seems to me that the board either wants to move on v quickly to new things or they expect the full whack from the hmrc.

Was wondering exactly the same as you .When Kingston Communications were subject to a takeover bid , another bidder came out of the woodwork and the bid was raised . Hope there is somebody else who sees the unquestionable value in this company going forward and if it is to be taken over the ante gets raised.

Any views on why this trades above the 410 offer?

Hmmmmmmm......410p seems a little cheeky if you consider the move in cable since the bid was announced

Strong results - spot on market consensus for major metrics, but dividend increase better. Put up or shut up extended to 30/8 - hope they don't agree it at the price suggested which now looks too cheap. Plenty of prospects - only minor thing is the landfill tax write-off.

I read on the SEC website that ECPM was censored by the SEC and fined $1m earlier this month. Rather interesting.

Been undervalued for too long imo so some sort of bid was inevitable. What won't be so clear is if it goes through

Biffa plc issued FY22 HY results yesterday, the business has recovered from COVID. Following a strong first half performance, revenue and adjusted operating performance have been restored to FY20 levels, FY22 expectations were reaffirmed and the company reinstated a dividend payment.  Meanwhile valuation is still reasonable, forward PE ratio of 16 is top half for the Professional & Commercial Services market. Share price lacks momentum for the time being, it is still in a correction from early September highs, so there is no rush to buy. But Biffa is a solid company that should be able to continue its solid expansion path in coming years, one to monitor for now....from WealthOracleAM

Yep I saw the impairment charge but imo it's no big deal providing they continue with the expansion and growth. Been in this one a while so remain relatively unworried by short term moves. Still remains a good long term play imo given the increasing requirements for better waste management. Pleasing to see interim divi back.

Oh dear. I thought overseas waste dumping was a two-sided contract crime between exporter and receiver companies, but this sounds like calculated fraud by Biffa to export ugly waste disguised as paper, presumably in concert with parties in India and Indonesia.

Not the first time. A shame the fine is so small, since it tarnishes the whole image of Britain as being at the forefront of environmental stewardship. Wonder how widespread are infringements which waste handlers are still getting away with.

Biffa are reported as being without apology. I wonder how this affects their "green" score and whether investors are happy with the prior conduct and the current attitude of the executive. Was this raised at the AGM a couple of weeks ago?

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/biffa-fined-15-million-for-reckless-export-breach

"A familiar name on the country’s bin collections has been fined £1.5 million for breaking export law, in what the judge called “reckless, bordering on deliberate.”

Biffa Waste Services Ltd has been at the centre of the second legal action of its kind in as many years, as the company found itself outside the law on which materials can be exported to developing countries.

Judge Shane Collery QC told Wood Green crown court Biffa had shown no contrition. He found the company’s previous comments about being picked on by the Environment Agency and no public interest served in being prosecuted a second time as “aggravating and unattractive.”
