probably not a hurricane. In an case, bad stuff (like weather) happens, else companies like BEZ would not be needed.

Nothing in the least concerning.

Yes.

To be fair, the bonds are quite short durattion, so held to maturity the only downside is a missed opportunity for a higher interest rate in the intervening period. We all get that issue as interest rates rise...

All seems good currently.

That argument reminds me of the logic behind the whole insurance industry that insurance losses are good because premiums then rise, which seems to work.

Whatever, the price is recovering nicely.

An interesting (nopunintended) policy. "It's OK to make capital losses because the interest rate is then higher". Hm. On that basis, should we hope the price of Beazley halves so that the yield doubles? Hmmmmm...

Investment return crashed the results by £36m, but higher interest rates will mean better return going forward on their fixed interest. That's taken the cream off the share price for now, but pretty solid going forward if you assume investment hit is a one-off.

Results disappointing at first sight but outlook is good.

"Beazley delivered a strong underwriting result in the first half of the year. Gross premiums written grew by 5% and we achieved a combined ratio of 89% despite increasing competition in a number of classes of business. Investment returns were down due to mark to market losses in our fixed income holdings caused by rising interest rates. Looking forward, however, higher interest rates promise enhanced investment returns."

Decent update. Not much reaction yet, but perhaps the recent price rise puts the good update in the price?

Seems a well run, growing little group to me.

You'll be lucky to get back in at a lower price the way this is breaking out. Still cheap though and looking good for a steady further rise.

Well, it's come down a little, due both to having gone ex-d end of Feb and some housekeeping selling (by me, to take profit). I'll be looking to get back in at some point, when the price has dropped a little further (and maybe before the next ex-d date?)

For dividend/income investors, now is probably a good time to buy: it's got a good, and I'd say safe, yield.

I've sold BEZ-B bonds and switched the proceeds plus a bit more into the ords. It looks like the ords might well pay more in divis than the bonds' 5 and a bit % and keep up with inflation too.

I bought ords a few years ago when I noticed that the CEO had bought at around 92p (from memory) and I was pleased to get in at 88p. Unfortunately I sold at 120p and never got round to re-entering. I did subscribe for the BEZ-B bonds which have done what they said on the tin but am now readjusting my risk/reward profile and reckon that the ords look like a very good proposition at this point in the cycle.
