Telecoms giant BT to cut 55,000 jobs worldwide
BT, the telecoms giant, has reported a decline in revenue amid weaker phone sales and confirmed significant job cuts.
The company saw a 3% drop in revenue to £5.2bn (€6.2bn) in the third quarter ending December, as lower handset sales and challenges in international markets outweighed price increases and growth in its ultra-fast broadband network.
BT has reduced its workforce by 3% to 117,000 in the first nine months of its financial year and plans to cut up to 55,000 jobs worldwide by 2030. |

Royal Mail bid:
So it is being bought using borrowed money at high interest rates, just like Thames water and other water companies, managers will take big wages, owners will take big profits, the banks or hedge funds will also take excessive interest rates and it will go bust with the taxpayer picking up the bill in about 10 years time.

What a great way to bankrupt the UK even faster; make us even more dependent in imported oil and gas that would have to be used in the UK anyway. More money going abroad, less taxes being paid by the those extracting the oil and gas from the North Sea, less jobs for British workers etc., etc. How badly do you have to govern an island built on coal, surrounded by fish and self sufficient in gas and oil, to be in the financial state that we are in?
Allowing new oil and gas fields would add £200 billion to UK economy
Some 85 per cent of homes and more than 75 per cent of vehicles rely on gas and petrol respectively
The Court of Session’s ruling overturning the UK Government’s permissions for two oil and gas fields in the North Sea still allows development to continue while revised environmental impact assessments (EIAs) that include downstream carbon emissions are submitted. |

Ukrainian “Paper Tigers”: Brigades That Disappear Before They Can Engage In Combat
Support SouthFront
Reserve preparation for the Ukrainian counteroffensive has failed. Kiev has to refuse forming new brigades, instead focusing on reinforcing the experienced formations already in place.
After the beginning of the military conflict in Ukraine, Kiev announced a general mobilization, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ command faced the challenge of how to properly deploy the army. Right at that moment, two “bombs” were placed under the foundation of Kiev’s military machine:
first, they decided to remain on a fully brigade structure;
second, instead of permanent formations (corps and army), brigades were reassigned to temporary operational structures.
Despite a number of obvious problems that had to be solved by creating divisions, the Ukrainian military and political leadership continued to establish new brigades. Thus, in 2024, the 150th series of brigades appeared, and then the first 160th brigades were created, at least on paper.
Today it became known that four brigades of the Ukrainian army, set up in 2024, stopped the process of formation. We are talking about the 158th, 159th, 160th and 162nd separate mechanized brigades.
Among the new formations created in 2024, which have not yet reached the front, only the 156th mechanized brigade was not disbanded, as it had already been manned and left for training in Europe. This decision is the result of the failure to create brigades of the 150th and 160th series, which Ukraine planned to form in 2024 as a reserve for possible future offensives.
The 155th mechanized brigade “Anna Kievskaya”, formed and trained in France, gained the most scandalous notoriety.
Initially, this formation was prepared as an offensive force, but it became popular in the media due to the mass desertion of soldiers. Thus, at the time of sending the brigade’s soldiers for training in France, 935 cases of unauthorized abandonment of place of service were recorded, although the servicemen were guarded as in a prison. After entering the battle near Pokrovskoye (Krasnoarmeyskoye) in the Donetsk People’s Republic, the number of cases of desertion reached 1,700.
In addition, Forbes also reported on the breakup of another Ukrainian brigade, the 157th, sent to Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk). According to journalists, the cause of this is the lack of proper combat training.
These and other cases clearly demonstrate the failure to create the “150th and 160th series” brigades, which were supposed to become the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ reserve for a new “counter-offensive”.
As a result, the personnel of the disbanded formations, as well as those forcibly conscripted (victims of the so-called “bussification”), will inevitably be sent to the more experienced brigades already existing, which, in theory, should increase the effectiveness of their use on the front. However, the key problem of such brigades is the lack of qualified officers in command positions. Ukraine has already run out of any sane or experienced personnel who could command at least a battalion in real combat situation.
In a sense, we can only regret that we will not hear any more about the new Ukrainian elite brigades in the nearest future. In its own way, those formations used to be beneficial for everyone: Volodymyr Zelensky was able to satisfy his ego and feed the West with stories about a future counteroffensive, the Ukrainian military commanders received an opportunity to steal money and travel abroad without hindrance, and the personnel of those formations had a good chance to desert in time to save their lives.

Russian Assault Om Ukrainian Konstantinopol Began
Support SouthFront
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are falling into another large cauldron on the Southern Donbass frontlines. According to preliminary reports from the battlefields, Russian forces entered the town of Konstantinopil that was supposed to become another Ukrainian stronghold after the loss of Kurakhovo.
The Russian army reportedly the town and its assault groups reportedly entered the settlement from the southern direction. Before the assault operations, Ukrainian positions were pounded by intense Russian air strikes and heavy artillery fire.
The main stage of Russian assault on the town began. The Armed Forces of Ukraine engage in heavy battles on the streets. Ukrainian garrison had time to reinforce its defense after the recent retreat from Kurakhovo.
On the eastern flank, stormtroopers of the Russian 102nd regiment of the 150th division broke through Ukrainian defense in Dachne and gained a foothold in the central part of the village. Russian fighters advanced up to 1.3 km and took control of buildings in the center of the village.
At the same time, the advancing Russian forces are encircling large Ukrainian forces from the north. The Russian troops are breaking through Ukrainian defense in Andreevka and approach th ecenter of the village. The assault is ongoing from the northern and eastern directions. Ukrainian forces were repelled from their positions along the river east of the village. At the moment, the battles are ongoing for control of the intersection of Tolbukhina Street and the street that turns into the T0515 highway leading to Pokrovsk.
As a result of Russian advance, a large area of more than 10 kilometers west of Kurakhovo turned into another cauldron for the retreating Ukrainian forces. The Ukrainian command is trying to urgently reinforce defense in the area and hastily deploys reinforcements. In particular, armored vehicles were spotted delivering additional forces to Ukrainian military positions near Razliv.

Insurer Payouts at $4 Billion and Counting So Far for LA Wildfires
Preliminary data shows that insurers have so far paid out more than $4 billion for losses from the biggest two of the Los Angeles-area wildfires that swept through the region and destroyed tens of thousands of homes earlier this month.
This week the picture of just how destructive the L.A. wildfires were is coming into focus now that claims professionals have been able to gain some access the affected areas.
Claims figures from insurers released by the California Department of Insurance on Thursday show that 31,210 claims have been filed for home, business, living expenses and other disaster-related needs. According to CDI, $4.2 billion in claims have been paid.
The figures, which are for the Palisades and Eaton fires, are likely to rise. At this point they look to be heading up toward early estimates from modelers that have come out in recent weeks pegging insured losses at between $8 billion and $40 billion. |

Gold Hits Record $2,790 as Traders Stockpile $82B
New York bullion traders have amassed a $82 billion stockpile of gold on fears of Trump tariffs on commodities, The Financial Times reports.
This is one of the drivers that sent spot gold to a record high of $2,790.49 at 10:25 a.m. EST Thursday, the precious metal's record previously set last October.
Hoarding in New York has led to a shortage of bullion at the Bank of England, with buyers now having to wait four to eight weeks for delivery rather than a few days.
“People can’t get their hands on gold because so much has been shipped to New York, and the rest is stuck in the queue,” one industry executive said. “Liquidity in the London market has been diminished.” MORE |
