RUSSIA HAMMERS UKRAINIAN ENERGY FACILITIES WITH BARRAGE OF MISSILES, DRONES
(VIDEOS)

The Russian military launched on June 1 a group strike against Ukraine, targeting energy facilities powering the country’s military-industrial complex as well as depots of Western-made weapons and ammunition.

The group strike was carried out in response to recent “attempts by the Kiev regime to damage Russian energy and transport facilities,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

“The goal of the strike has been achieved. All the assigned targets have been engaged,” the ministry added.

The command of the Ukrainian Air Force alleged that air defense shot down 35 of 53 missiles and 46 of 47 drones which were launched by the Russian military during the attack. However, official Ukrainian sources reported damage in at least five different regions.

Ukraine’s Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, acknowledged in a statement on social media that energy infrastructure in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kirovohrad and Ivano-Frankivsk regions were struck.

In addition, the country’s largest private energy firm, DTEK, said that two of its power plants had been seriously damaged in what it said was the sixth attack on the company’s plants in two and a half months.

Videos posted to social media also showed a series of blasts in the region of Lvov, where key energy facilities and military bases are located.

The Kiev regime stepped up attacks on the Crimean Peninsula, Belgorod and several other Russian regions in recent weeks in what appears to be an attempt to make up for the recent defeats of its forces on the battlefield. Weapons supplied by the United States and other NATO states were used in many of the attacks.

The latest Russian group strike on Ukraine’s energy facilities and military depots was not the first, and will not certainly be the last.

RUSSIAN ARMY HUNTS SHORT-RANGE AIR DEFENSES IN KHARKIV WITH LANCET LOITERING
MUNITIONS (VIDEOS)

Support SouthFront

The Russian military has targeted three Soviet-made 9K33 Osa short-range air defense systems of Kiev forces in the Kharkiv direction using Lancet loitering munitions.

Videos of the strikes, which were carried out by the Sever Group of Forces, were posted to social media between May 29 and 31. The strikes destroyed two of the air defense systems. The third sustained light damage only, but it was abandoned by its crew.

kraine inherited some 120 Osa-AKM from the Soviet Union. Not all of these systems were in an operational condition when Russia launched its special military operation in 2022. Later, Ukraine received an additional upgraded Osa-AKM-P1 from Poland.

The Osa can engage aerial targets like fighter jets, helicopters, drones using missiles guided via radar command with a range of 15 kilometers and altitude of 12 kilometers.

The Lancet, which was used to target the three Ukrainian Osa systems, was developed by the ZALA Aero Group, a subsidiary of Russia’s defense giant Kalashnikov Concern.

The company produces two versions of the loitering munition, the Izdeliye-52 with an endurance of 30 minutes and a one-kilogram warhead and the larger Izdeliye-51 that has an endurance of 40 minutes and is armed with a warhead weighting three kilograms.

The loitering munition flies towards the designated area with a GLONASS-aided inertial navigation system. After arriving in the area, the operator utilizes an onboard electro-optical system via a two-way data-link to detect, track and lock on the target. A laser-ranging system then controls the detonation of the warhead.

The small radar cross-section and minimal infrared signature of the electric-powered loitering munition makes it very difficult to detect and intercept.

Ukrainian attempts to stop Lancet loitering munitions with air defense fire, electronic warfare or countermeasures have been mostly unsuccessful.

The Russian military launched a limited ground operation in the direction of Kharkiv earlier this month after repeated attacks by Kiev forces on Belgord and other neighboring Russian regions. So far, more than a dozen settlements have been captured.

Suppressing short-range air defense systems like the Osa is critical for the success of ground operations as it facilitates the operations of attack helicopters and drones.

Putin describes accusations of ‘abductingR17; Ukrainian children as political games

Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova underscored that Russia acted in the interests of children and did everything necessary

MOSCOW, May 31. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova and said children should reunite with their families in Ukraine and Russia.

The commissioner told Putin about Ukrainian children who ended up in Russia, saying that 70 of them were ultimately reunited with their relatives in Ukraine. She also said six Russian children returned from Ukraine, but this was not given much spotlight in Kiev because otherwise it would have become clear that the situation is not about "capturing" children, but military operations and certain family circumstances.

"Okay. Never mind them and their political games. The main thing is for children to reunite with their relatives, for families to reunite, so they are happy," Putin said in response.

Above politics
The commissioner also said Russia acts in the interests of children and does everything necessary.

"Good. But this work should be above politics. It should be of a purely humanitarian nature," Putin replied.

"In the interests of children, yes. That’s exactly what we do," Lvova-Belova said.

Accusations against Russia
In March 2023, the International Criminal Court, whose jurisdiction Russia doesn’t recognize, issued a warrant for the arrest of the Russian president and Maria Lvova-Belova on charges of purportedly "unlawful deportation" of Ukrainian children. Putin said Russia absolutely legitimately brought children away from the conflict area to put them out of harm’s way and never prevented them from reuniting with their families.
