Barclays has fallen 14% this year, which is obviously disappointing for its investors. However, I think the company has a good strategy and is now through the restructuring which has been the major focus of recent years. Barclays has a diverse business model in my view and could be undervalued based on its prospective P/E of 8.9. I think this suggests it could beat the index in the long run.

on Smart Investor... is there any way to stop being logged out after 9 minutes??...
would really appreciate it if anyone has found a way/a setting that can be adjusted...
..or if they have had customer services adjust your account so platform does not log u out

On the "old" barclays system, i had it adjusted so i was NEVER logged out..
this was extremely useful.

thanks in advance

Barclays don't want private investors they just want to sell managed funds to their customers. It begs the question, why didn't Barclays just sell Barclays Stockbrokers instead of engendering all this confusion, reputational damage, inconvenience and loss of goodwill. It's not easy for investors to extricate themselves from this shambles is it.

A problem that is going to get nasty. - 'Smart Investor'

Barclays bought 'Charles Schwab' investment website many years ago. It was very good. I was very happy. I used it for 3 investment accounts and 3 ISA accounts for more than 15 years.... happily. I also had a second online account for a pension scheme.
All told, quite a large figure under investment.

Last year, Barclays informed me (as Trustee) that they didn't want Pension or Trust accounts any longer, find someone else. I did, but not before Barclays made two errors so significant that they felt obliged to send me £120 Hampers. I was not impressed.

Two months ago, they suddenly announced that they were planning to transfer all customers to a new 'Investment Hub', all over one weekend.

They sent out glossy brochures, invited customers to go look at the technology. I did so. One of the things I noticed was that I could only have one ISA account to manage? I rang the support number who informed me not to worry, 'Smart Investor' sorts it all out!

The conversion weekend arrived and the old site was no longer usable.
Of my 6 managed accounts the following happened:-
One ISA and one Investment account suddenly popped up on a barely used Barclays account that I had;
One ISA and one Investment account turned up on my wife's own Barclays account
The 5th and 6th accounts DIDN'T turn up on my daughter's Barclays account.

The support organisation tracked down and attached my daughters one investment and one ISA, but after two weeks she still cannot access them, it is still 'being worked on'.

Now NO-ONE asked me if I wanted these accounts dispersed this way.
No permission was sought to use our existing Barclays current accounts.
THOSE ARE THE BIGGER ISSUES

As it happens, two weeks later I still cannot fund my ISA with more cash, nor can my wife fund the one in her name. Why? Because in transferring everything automatically, they forgot the ISA rule that you have to 'nominate a linked account'. The linked accounts are of course on the old Barclays Stockbroker system, and the ISA'a 'don't know' the new current accounts that they are linked to.

In trying to get those issues that ARE fixable, fixed, I found out from 'support' that MOST Barclays Stockbroker customers managed multiple (family) accounts on the system!

So to summarise, I now have to co-ordinate investments separately for my wife and my daughter, haven't been able to do anything on my investments for a couple of weeks, and still have issues.

A disastrous process, to get to an inferior system, that doesn't even work how I want to work!

Go figure!

@portside re 123483:
have they fixed smart investor?

----------------

Not as far as I'm concerned. My Shell dividends came in ludicrously late and one account then took a day too long to transfer funds out. This fiasco has lost me a lot of money.

But, worse than that, I have received no reply whatsoever (apart from the automated "we will get back to you within 48 hours"), to a formal letter of complaint that I sent them over a week ago.

What a brilliant way to try to lose customers.

Mind you, it was nice to see multiple Barclays PDMRs getting credited their huge number of shares today - so we're not all losers.

Only at Barclays imo:

"Barclays is seeking to delay the case, which is set to go to trial in January, as it believes it could prejudice separate criminal proceedings being brought against it by the Serious Fraud office."

The great guys at Barclays don't want one honest mistake to make it look like another honest mistake wasn't an honest mistake.

...and so one poor Barclays supplier learns the hard way that this stalwart of an industry built on confidence, apparently has to be dealt with using CIA* commercials.

Absolutely woeful imo.

PCP Capital Partners, the investment firm founded by Amanda Staveley, has ditched West End law firm Fladgate as its advisers in its £1.2bn court battle against Barclays.

It has instead appointed Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, a prestigious US-based firm which specialises in business litigation and arbitration.
