18/5/2016 13:51 | Top and CapeMy stance is that it doesn't matter if we want to get out or stay, the damage was done many years ago when we signed up to they EU. I'm referring to the leaving process - whereby the other member states will get together and decide the terms on which we are allowed to leave. This will include trade amongst others. Britain will not have a seat at that table - so it's like getting a divorce but the other half having all the say over possessions and you none. Yes Europe is a cesspool of bureaucrats and inequality. The rich subsidise the poor which removes incentive for growth. The point is Britain is deep in upto its knees and a break will damage our nation more than any immigrant, subsidy or EU directive ever will... | micronesiac
18/5/2016 13:16 | Conservatively estimated to be worth more than £200 million, publisher and Tory patrician Lord Heseltine has always shown a slavish devotion to the European Union throughout his political career. But it is surprising to learn just how much money the former deputy prime minister — one of the richest men in Parliament — receives from EU taxpayers. For I learn that silver-haired Heseltine has been benefiting from a generous income from Brussels in the form of farming subsidies. Hezza, 77, who handed the reins of his hugely successful Haymarket publishing empire to son Rupert 13 months ago, has, over the years, been enjoying average payments of around £90,000-a-year for his farming activities across 1,255 acres in Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire. Figures for the ten years from 2000 to 2009 show he pocketed a plethora of subsidies. Writer and ‘transparency& Read more: Follow us: @MailOnline so Heseltine is fighting for is hand outs he should be barred from speaking on the eu he has not declared is interest in the eu it stinks the man is a disgraceful liar | portside1

18/5/2016 12:59 | Top, the crab example may be a metaphore, but it happens in the real crab buckets too. Crabs do rip those that try to escape or be different. But like everyone here, we all have our opinions and at the end of the day, that is all most of them are. Come EU ref day, we'll know then the outcome and how the future pans out. As I've said before, I'm in favour of a Europe that can work together, but as of yet I'm an still unable to see where anyone us working together and it's quite possible we may never see that in our life time, but I still don't see how giving billions to countries is the answer. No more so that giving millions to lazy on benefits street is beneficial either, when the hard working get kicked in the nuts far too often. | capeview

18/5/2016 12:18 | RE: Brexit, imo it's similar to an election, you often see the opposition in front on polls, or at least closer than expected, but the result is often different. Imo it's simply that the opposition have more to prove so are more vocal, will take part in polls etc etc. The people who are confident in their view and believe the correct path will be trodden just wait until the important bit, the vote. | kirbs4
18/5/2016 10:49 | Diku, I understand the number crunching, but they still put these polls out there as if they are fact. It's like when people say, 'everyone loves the royal family?' Er hello, no they really don't. We'll find out on the day as to the real result. I just wish people would stop putting these polls out there as being factual. But yes, finding out where the 56% comes in would be interesting. | capeview
18/5/2016 10:38 | Capeview - I agree with you, polls can't reflect everyone's opinion, so the poll of polls is the best we've got. Portside was saying that it's currently 56% in favour of the leaves, but that doesn't agree with the link above and I don't understand why he wants to mislead people. | kenbachelor
18/5/2016 10:35 | Its all to do with statistical number crunching... | diku
18/5/2016 10:18 | Unless they are getting the full voting details from everyone in the country I don't hold much on many polls. They are just as bad as most studies done where they may only been from certain areas, population types, taken from the same people over and over again. I've not voted on any poll and know quite a few people who haven't, so straight away they don't have our details. Same can be said when it come to our children being born. Where do they get there statistics from, because they sure didn't affect us. | capeview
18/5/2016 10:12 | Where did you get 56% from Portside? | kenbachelor
18/5/2016 10:06 | Porto, I have the same problem with people I know. Unless you go with what they believe, then you are the stupid one. Me, I've had it all my life ever since I was at school, and I've still a way to go yet, but someone told me a great little story about the crabs in a crab pot. There is always those looking to escape, but the others keep pulling them back down. Eventually, they get infuriated and rip the legs of that crab. We're the crab trying to escape. I'm open minded, and I don't believe everything both sides are saying is completely accurate or true, but I look at history as part of the solution as well as the problem we are facing then use my judgement to make my decision. And right now, it says vote out as we have no idea either way what is going to happen, much like everyone with there crystal balls who say the stocks will rise. They could just as easily fall. | capeview

18/5/2016 08:19 | Diku, he may well be but judging by the responses everyone who did spend some time reading his one-eyed rants have done the decent thing and filtered as it is clearly an unstable mind fuelled by goodness knows what... Wrong place, usual intolerant attitude of his ilk. Barclay's will rise with all financials and most other sectors on June 24 - possibly dramatically - if the City and big business gets its way of remaining. Aside from the humanist, future-looking and frankly nicer world remaining would bring ALL of us on this mortal coil, surely if you're invested in BARC you'd be happy with that? Topicel | topicel
